Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/12/17:
Pretty good, yet small week for me. Lots of good books though.
Returning Favorites
Hammer Horror: The Mummy #5 – This series has been a good read. The funny thing is the Upcoming Mummy movie seems to have a lot related to this series even though there is no connection to them. Just a good horror adventure read.
Seven to Eternity #5 – This book has been hot and with good reason, Rick Remender has been on fire. Seriously, he must not sleep with as many books as he is putting out, as well as having his hands in the Deadly Class TV show, he is writing it, and getting this book optioned is just a matter of time. Rick could not comment on this book being optioned but all I can say is wait for it…..
Harrow County #22 – Great read time and again.
The Odd Marvel on the List
Deadpool VS Punisher #1 – this should be bloody, violent, fun. The last time the two crossed paths the books became back issue gold.
The New Image #1
Rose #1 – Looks to be good from the previews. also look for the Rose #1 Retailer Appreciation One Per Store as these have been doing well.
For the Horror Fan
Z-Nation #1 – Terry mentioned this one in the New Comic Spec Review video this week, it is based on the zombie TV show and looks like good gory fun.
The One With the Buzz
Godshaper #1 – Hands down the book people have been emailing me about Remember, Boom Studios has a first look deal with Paramount, and their books get optioned.
The No Brainer Pick
Heathen #3 – Lightening in a bottle struck twice, first with issue 1 and then again with issue 2. No way I can avoid grabbing a couple of copies to flip to offset my weeks purchases.
The Pick of the Week
Solar Flare #1 – Hands down my pick of the week. I alluded to this in the New Comic Spec Review video yesterday. I have been going on about this book for a while, since I read about it in the Wall Street Journal. It is is a fantastic story by James Haick, it was self published and now is coming out from Scout Comics, giving new readers a chance to jump on. The thing I like most about it is the story is backed with facts and science, James did his research, and it is easily translatable into a tv show. (Come on Hollywood, or New York, or whatever.)
Here is the New Comic Spec Review Video if you missed it:
That is it for this week. Stop by the Wednesday Open Forum to let us know what you are spec-ing on.

I can’t wait for Solar Flare, I want to see how it is different from the original. Z nation also looks good, both are going to be in my pullbox.
I normally try to leave spec’ing to the pros on here, but couldn’t agree more on solar flare. There will be initial hotness then keep some for long term
READ THOSE LAST PANELS of X-Men Blue!
I have two complete runs of the original Solar Flare Arc (and LOVED it).
Anything different about this release, other than the publisher?
Not too much. I am going to still pick up and support the new book until they catch up to issue 7!! Excited for the story to continue monthly
