February was a cold month, both weather-wise here on the east coast and for comic book sales.
Comic sales across the board were down 10.39% in February according to ICv2. Only one comic sold more than 100,000 comics, where previous months had at least 2 or more selling 100,000 copies. This is the second month in a row that individual comic sales decreased.
All is not lost though. Graphic novel sales were up several percent year over year, which does not help the speculators, but does show interest in comics as a format.
I do think there were some genuine books heating up over February, with Bunker #1 Oni Press and Manifest Destiny #1 heating up to a crazy price for such a new book.

The question is whether now is the right time to sell Manifest Destiny or hold on and see if it goes higher?
There will be a natural cooling off period at some point. Whether that is after a continued rise in price or not. The question is, how much do you have in to it? Are you willing to leave money on the table, and sell now, or potentially lose money on a price decrease. If you have multiples, sell one and see, regain cost, take a profit. I really love this series and am holding my #1
I wish I had extras to play with. I see the prices on eBay and get tempted but at the same time I have all first prints including the Ottley variant and Image Expo variants. Pretty Sure #1 is a high grade CGC and I’m only into the set for cover price so I’ll hang in there for now. Another great spec book is Superior Spider Man 29 with the J Scott Campbell Black Cat variant from the Mole Mexican Con. THAT I was lucky to get a few copies of 🙂
That is actually a bunch of good finds. I am often tempted to sell from my personal collection, but have missed out on high prices by wanting to keep certain books (full runs of Walking Dead, Peter Panzerfaust, Saga, and Chew for example.)
How did you score the SSM 29’s?
Pure luck. Had a friend taking vacation in Mexico last week. I owe him beer upon return for the pair (a more than fair trade)
a good beer I hope, no Pabst for that trade.
I like my beer like I like my comics….made in small batches my friend 😉
I’ve got two copies now myself. Keeping one for collection and I’m actually gonna hold onto the other. If it cools down and then never heats up again, oh well. I have this feeling it’s gonna continue to stay popular though. It’s a great story and the artwork is good too.
same here. selling my extras keeping one set
Kills me to hear Manifest is spiking. I bought #1 out of curiosity. Loved it, thought it would climb. Went back to the lcs a couple days later and it was already sold out.
My LCS orders big on every Image book. For some reason Manifest was not ordered heavily. I searched every shop on my area and could not find additional copies.
