As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.

  1. Nabbed a full Adam Hughes run of Catwoman and Harley Quinn’s first series for basically cover price this week.

    Good hunting everyone!

      1. Turtles #1 1st printing? That’s now way out of my price range. Funny, back in the early 80’s I remember buying TMNT #3 and #4 off the newstand and thinking that $40 for #1 1st printing (at the time) was way too expensive for a comic. Considering I was in my early teens, it was a lot of money and had to settle for a 3rd print. I should have borrowed the money and bought every copy I could find. Ah well, I made some really stupid purchases early on that I sometimes regret. Was at a local comic show with only $30 to spend and passed on a mint Amazing Spiderman #129 (again 80’s) for $20 and bought an Elementals #1 from Comico instead for the same amount. Still have that Elementals, but what the heck was I thinking?

        1. I came across an Amazing Fantasy 15 in great shape back in 88 and they wanted $1500 for it. I talked to my dad about letting me spend my savings on it, he said hell no. He said that I would be stupid to spend that much money on a comic.

        2. One of my grails were Comico Primer and the Grendel miniseries from Comico. I ended up buying them a bunch of years ago. I still love Comico.

  3. Picking up:
    Rat Queens 12
Royalboiler Brandon Graham’s Drawn Out Collection TP
    Notes:
Just finished reading the Mortal Engines Quartet to prepare for the Peter Jackson movie coming in December. My daughter finally submitted her application to Oregon State University. I’ve been selling comics to help pay for that.

  4. Haven’t found much worth writing about in the last 2 weeks, sold my hoard copies of Captain Marvel 16/17 1st Phyla-Vell for a very healthy profit. I don’t get the current buzz, it’s not like she wasn’t in a GOTG series before but whatever.
2 weeks ago I went to the PIL show in DC and met Johnny Rotten, got 2 of my Sex Pistols 7″ covers signed, keepers!
The woman and I tied the knot Saturday so the last 2 years of selling every good book I found can FINALLY stop and I can start keeping stuff again. She’s totally fine with hitting up shops when we’re on the honeymoon.

    1. I am a huge Public Image Ltd fan. Saw them in DC a bunch of years ago on the That What is Not tour. They played with Big Audio Dynamite. Still one of my favorite shows of all time.
John Alyson has long been a role model of mine, him and Jello Biafra from the Dead Kennedy’s.
Congrats on getting married. Where you off for the honeymoon that has comic shops?

  5. My pickups. Someone was too busy with baseball to give us spoilers so I may be missing out on something lol
    Batgirl 28 Middleton x 7 (5 I’ve pre-sold already)
Arachknight covers B + incentive for cover price
Wonder Woman Frison x 3 (gonna flip at least one)
Dead Kings covers A + B (probably flipping)
    Amazing Spiderman #8 battle lines x 2 + 1 Black Cat variant
    Moon Knight 200 Finch

      1. Haha no worries, life should always come first! I really do appreciate all this great info you give us for absolutely free… it’s helped me in my collecting without a doubt.

  6. Didn’t win mega millions, but hit a small jackpot today,
    Invincible iron man 7 (1st Riri) 1st prt – $4
    Invincible Iron Man 10 & 11 (1st Resue Armor) $3 ea.
No Batgirl or WW B covers. No Rejected.

  7. Nice knowing the gang here. Red Dead Redemption II comes out tomorrow for me. Ill see you guys in a month or two. If you need me, send me a postcard in New Austin…and beyond. ?

  8. Was nice to see DC finally announce the Jim Lee variant for Batman Damned 2.
We all knew one was coming, but they waited months with the stated plan to only have a Cover A.

  9. Signed dead rabbit #1 comics available at midtown comics for cover price. Signed by the writer and artist (separately).

  10. Nothing new for me today. I did notice that Midtown has a ton of signed comics up for sale next week.

  11. I don’t get the appeal of The Rejected. I have a copy and it’s poorly written and drawn. Get it’s a small print run and it has some interesting characters but it’s extremely distracting when Mr. Teeth says “boy” 65 times (go ahead, count em). 65 in a book with minimal dialogue at best. It took me completely out of the story.

    1. 4 simple words explain the ‘appeal’ of The Rejected. Fear. Of. Missing. Out. If the book was never mentioned online, it would still be available at your LCS. The heat on the book was purely manufactured, imo.

      1. Fear of missing out is a valid point. I missed out both times. However, it’s too late to for me to chase it so I left it alone. We had it on our picks based on it being a horror book, small press/small print run, and a publisher that has had a couple of hits as of late. I didn’t see it on other people’s lists until after it shot up in price, but then again I don’t look for other people’s lists.

        1. CHU has spotlighted indie books for as long as I can remember. It is clearly something that interests you, Tony. And your passion for the indie horror tittles shows in your writings. There was one big group in particular who was pushing The Rejected heavy on its release date. The low print run is nice, but there a ton of books that come out every week with print runs that are just as small. The small print reason that is given to explain this books heat, doesnt hold water with me.
I believe no speculator should ‘chase’ a hot book. You either get it at cover at your LCS or move on. Thats how I work.

          1. Agreed. Cover or nothing for me. Yes, I love horror. And I love indie horror comics and movies. These are the books I promote, and to be honest, horror books tend to be a good investment.

  12. For those that have been buying the DC 100-pagers, issue #4 for each of the Batman, JLA, Superman, and Teen Titans 100-Page Giants (Walmart) have been released this week.

    1. Happened on to these in the checkout line this evening. Is the Batman #4 the first appearance of Jinny Hex character?
