Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 12/5/18:
Sorry I am late. Life got in the way for the first time in a long time. Anyway, comics…. Go….
Killer B’s
Batman #60 Francesco Mattina Cover – Combination great cover and surprise at the end of the issue. See our spoilers if you haven’t already.
Deathstroke #38 Mattina Cover Mattina Cover – Again, a great one for the PC. I think these are long term growers.
DC One to Watch
Shazam #1 – starts a new series for Captain Marvel in time for the movie. Written by Geoff Johns, this should be a great read. Surprise ending. Spoilers coming.
The Marvel One to Watch
Immortal Hulk #10 – Hulk goes to hell. Immortal Hulk has been awesome and worth the pick up. First print back issues are becoming scarce.
Because It’s Donny Cates
Venom #9 – New twist to the Venom symbiote this issue. Not to mention, secrets from Eddie Brocks past. Spoilers to come.
New Image #1 (Worth Grabbing)
Die #1 – a very cool looking new book out from Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans. Hans has a following for her cover art so in addition to a great sounding story, her art will be a draw for this book.
Self-made #1 – promising new Image series.
Built-in Spec
Prodigy #1 – Mark Millar’s new Netflix book. I love the built in spec, however, Millar’s books do not often heat up.
For the Cover
Unnatural #5 Variant – The racy B variants are worth a look and have sold well in the past. This is actually a really good book in my opinion.
Indie Barrage
Road of the Dead #2 – First issue did well. Grab the Variant if you can find it.
Grumble #1 – Because this is an Albatross Exploding comics, it is worth the grab. There is a limited David Lafuente cover that is selling out early.
Nice #1 – from American Gothic Press is also sold out in some online shops early. This was originally a TV script.
Dunkirk One Shot – It’s Alive is for the fans of War comics and and historical books. But spec fans should take note of this high cover price, small print run, small press book that is already selling out online.
Repeating Small Press Winner
Riptide #4 – Red 5’s repeatedly selling out and selling for over cover price indie gem. Selling out online already.
Small Press Picks of the Week
The Source #1 2nd print and The Source #2– Source Rocks… Scout rocks.
Ogre #2 – First issue sold out and sold for well above cover. Will we see a repeat with #2?
Pick of the Week
Rags #1 2nd Print– hands down winner. Rags is a juggernaut. Get them, flip them, hell, get one grade and flip. But grab them and sell them while the Rags train rolls on.
Thanks it for this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on. And in case you missed it, here is this week’s New Comic Spec Review Video

Life? That’s no excuse. Your life is HERE!!
I kid. Hope life’s back on track for ya.
As for comics, you’ve convinced me to give immortal hulk some attention and I’ve been picking up back issues if I find them in 9..6/9.8 shape. I’ll likely pick a few more up in the run tomorrow.
I picked up a copy of Dunkirk earlier on Mycomicshop, and I’m also looking for Immortal Hulk back issues.
I have PRODIGY, BATMAN, and UNNATURAL 5B on my list. I saw DUNKIRK in the theater but might check it out in comic form. I like LAGUARDIA, KILLMONGER, and WIZARD BEACH number ones. Continuing with DOOMSDAY CLOCK 8 and LODGER 2. Fantagraphics put a good-looking graphic novel, MEMORABILIA, by Italian cartoonist Sergio Ponchione.
