Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday

Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)

We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.

The 218th edition of the open forum!

It is Christmas, as I am posting it that is, so let’s hear those Comic related Christmas gifts.

As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?
What was sitting on the shelves?
What back issue deals did you grab?

  1. Robot vacuum cleaner and full size bb8 fighting it out in my living room today. Hope you all had a good holiday!

  2. Over the weekend pickups: Edge Of Spider-Verse 1 2 & 5 variants unbelievably cheap. Getting #2 CGC’d and buying some silver and bronze keys.
    Merry X-Men everyone!

    1. It’s a nice cover the back bend is kinda weird but in the link I also see Marvel foil incentive variants, god help us all!

  3. Haven’t bought much this week but did find a FF #50 in lower grade for 25 bucks. Cant beat cheap silver age Silver Surfer in any grade. Just a matter of time before he joins the Marvel Cinematic U

  4. I really spaced out, I 100% forgot today was Wednesday. I don’t think I’ll be getting much if anything today.

    1. I stayed in today, but I am going to a small, local con tomorrow to try and snag some good comic deals.

  5. I didn’t get any comics under the tree. But I did make some nice sales on eBay. And my little one starts TeeBall on the 6th so that extra $ is going towards getting him some stuff he needs.

    Happy holidays!!

    1. Damn that’s early for baseball. I’ll have 3 playing this year but we don’t start till March

      1. I live in San Diego and I had the chance to do winter baseball or spring baseball. I am doing winter to see if he likes it and if he does, then do spring which starts in March.

        1. We do baseball pretty much year round. We play spring and fall. Then there are camps and trainings we do in between. My son is in basketball right now. Usually Dec-Jan is basketball. Batting practice starts in January. Winter work outs in February. March starts spring training. Late March until July is spring season. August is camps or training. Late August through end of October is Fall season. November is camps and BP sessions again. And then it starts all over.

  6. Hopefully, people are taking advantage of discounted prices that often occur between black friday to end of year sales. Support your local comic book store! In my area, two major stores went out of business recently. Unfortunately, we don’t always appreciate something until after we lose it.

  7. Recent pickups!
    Thor #617 (first Kid Loki) 2 @ $3.99 each
    Black Panther 2 (first Shuri as Black Panther) #5 1 @ $2.99
    Pulse #13 (first Danielle Cage) 2 @ $2.00 each
    Journey into Mystery #632 1 @ $2.99
    New Avengers (2004) #27 (first Clint Barton as Ronin) 1 @ $8.00
    Hawkman #4 (first Zatanna) $95

      1. It’s around a 4.0 copy. Probably going to send it in for a cleaning/press and get it slabbed.

  8. not going out today.recovering from the holidays.and not eeling well.picking up avengers #682 second prints @$3 spidey 2099 #1 2015 series mantina cover for $2 a pair of the secret origin sneakers for $100 as well as a trip from n.y.c. to vegas.might have found a spot for a store love you guys blind adam out

  9. Only pick up this week was Die!Die!Die! #6

Was able to take advantage of some pre-Christmas sales last week:
    Saga #19 (RRP Diamond) $40
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #8 (2X$4 each)
    Arkham Knight #1 ($5)
    Spiderman 2099 #35 (1st Venom 2099 for $3)

BTW did anyone check out the free Deadly Class episode on YouTube? Had a chance to see it and was very impressed. Never read the comic, but dug this and will look to watch it going forward. Thoughts from anyone?

Also saw the Yahoo.com article yesterday talking about Darth Vader #25 and Vader’s dad being revealed to be Palpatine? Interesting thought and will this make that book hot? The Dell’Otto 1 in 25 variant has been selling great so far.

    Good hunting!

    1. Vader’s dad can’t be Palpatine he already has a canon origin from the movies involving immaculate conception through middaclorians at the time then Chancellor Palpatine wasn’t even aware of Anakin in anyway until young Obi brought him from his mothers to the Jedi council.

      1. Palpatine wouldn’t be the 1st dad not to be aware of the existence any kids of his making. I know this doesn’t explain the immaculate conception, but, jus sayin.

  10. My incredibly wonderful wife must have thought that I was an extra special good boy this year! My new favorite comic is now a Giant-Size X-men #1 cgc 9.6 WP signed by the late great Mr. Stan Lee!!! I’m also now the proud owner of my first incredibly nice watch, a Breitling Navitimer! Happy Holidays everyone!!!

  11. Stuck to back issues for a second week.

    Edge of spider-Gideon #2 @cover
    Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 (x2) @ $2.50ea.
    Amazing Spider-Man #10 (vol. 3, first spider-punk);@ $6.50ea.
Had 6 copies of these, none of which 9.8…so grabbed the three best copies

  12. Only new pickups were X-Force and Bone Parrish. I passed on FF. Don’t know what is more brutal, spending $8 on a book or having a honeymoon with the Thing, probably the latter. I did get a few $1 books including: ASM 196, 197, Spec. Spidey 81, Brave and the Bold 109, Justice League Quarterly 5, and Spidermn’s Get Kraven 5 (love these movie adapted covers).

For Christmas I got some deadpool PJs and few ASM vol. 2. fillers to help close some gaps but no keys or anything, but the Wife did get me a Spiderman 2099 #1.

  13. A short list this week:
    Fantastic Four #5
    Superior Spider-Man #1 (Cover A Travis Charest)
    X-Force #1 (Cover A Pepe Larraz)

The LCS is having a 75% off sale on older books. I snagged a copy of The Atom #3 (first appearance Chronos) for $15. Book appears to be in VG condition – not outstanding, but not bad either. I’m thinking of making an offer on other Silver Age books as they have decent runs of a few titles that interest me, but I also have a big car repair bill coming up that is a must since the car has to pass inspection. Decisions, decisions.
