Comics Picks of the week for delivery on 5/14/14

This summer has already started to heat up with the release of Southern Bastards, The Woods, and Nailbiters.
This week is another great week. Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves. We give our picks for the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks for delivery on 3/14/14:
The one with the Walking and the Dead:
Walking Dead #127 – You know I cannot resist putting a Walking Dead book in as a must pickup. The series will continue to grow, this is the first issue at the end of a story arch (tpb) and is always a good starting point for new readers. This is the first post-All out War issue. I always buy two copies of The Walking Dead, this one is going to be worth it.
The Marvel one:
The United States of Murder Inc. – Kind of reminds me of Evil Empire. It is Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming from Powers. A brand-new world of crime fiction like you’ve never seen before. In this oversized first issue, you will discover a world in which the families of organized crime never lost their stranglehold on the United States.
The weird indy vibe one for fans of Adventure Time:
Bee and Puppycat #1 – Natasha Allegri is simply amazing. She built up a huge fan following on Tumblr while working on the Adventure Time cartoon, then created Fionna and Cake, and heck, then she created BEE AND PUPPYCAT, the best thing ever!
also
LumberJanes #2 – Girl scouts and supernatural creatures. Best be prepared.
and the overall pick of the week, besides Walking Dead is:
Afterlife with Archie #5 Pepoy Variant – Love cheesecake, these covers do it justice. Grab two, this one could be a quick flip by weekend.

  1. Yup, Walking Dead #127 is also a double size issue at same great price of $2.99. I pick up two of these each time as well, I might be picking up a few extra.
The Pepoy Variants of course, do not miss out. I pre-ordered mine months ago, I hope they’re not too late so I can flip some.
Lumberjanes.. I read the first one, just wasn’t my thing. I’m likely going to pass this round.
Bee and Puppy I’ll probably pick up for the kids.
I’m looking forward to Doomed. I’m not a big DC reader ( Batman, Batman Eternal, Detective and Superman Unchained ) but I love Doomsday, so I’ll be picking up Doomed along with a few of the Tie-Ins most likely.
I’d also like to say Batman Eternal is actually good, if you like Batman, you should be reading this weekly series.

    1. It was a nice surprise that the walking dead was 2.99.
So is the time line in Batman eternal the same as the other batman books? I’m a little confused on the actual timeline. I’m enjoying the book too.

      1. Well, Batman currently is in Zero Year storyline, earlier years of Batman and Bruce Wayne’s days…. so hard to tell. I think I recall in Detective Comics that they referred to Commissioner Gordon as being in custody currently, so those two might be in same timeline. I’d have to go back and double check though.

        1. I caught that too. They also reference dick Grayson. So I thought forever evil was in the future. Man, batman has a lot of irons in the fire. He is also dealing with Damien and he also has a story line with batwoman. Maybe I’m just overthinking this.

          1. Most likely. The titles I do read, if they do cross somehow, I still try to read each title individually without thinking too hard about them… 🙂

      2. The other nice thing I do enjoy with Image is they’re ads are all in the back, not mixed in unlike DC and Marvel. But then again, I don’t deal with silly ads for Marvel since most of the ones I pick up have digital codes so I read them on my tablet or computer, digital reads have no ads.

  2. Just read WD #127 and it was amazing. Was able to secure five in all. Two from the LCS and preordered three from Midtown which have already shipped. Midtown is now sold out. Crazy good book.

      1. That is going to be the hard part, flashed forward, the hard part of rebuilding is done. Nagan looks scary behind bars and is trying to win Carl back. Where do they go from here. I am hoping the zombie swarm and that they have learned to ” herd them” is a tip of the hat to the fact something is going to go horribly wrong.

      2. If it’s herds now that they have to deter away, I’d try to find me a combine to just mow over the herds with, like plowing the corn field but taking out the zombies.. 🙂

  3. While reading 127 I was thinking wouldn’t it be cool if this new group was somehow connected the sister WD show they’re supposed to start filming. Having their paths cross like that??

  4. I wasn’t going to pick up United States of Murder Inc. but did anyways, it was actually quite good.
