Rat Queens gets adapted in animated show

Rat Queens, the fantasy/comedy series from Kurtis J. Weibe and Roc Upchurch is being adapted as an animated TV series.
Variety.com had the exclusive on this. Variety described Rat Queens as:

The dark comedy, described as a sass-and-sorcery series, revolves around beer-guzzling maidens — Hannah the Rockabilly elven mage, Violet the hipster dwarven fighter, Dee the atheist human cleric and Betty the hippy smidgen thief — who are hired to kill monsters and other beasts.

Kurtis Weibe is also well known for the hit series “Peter Panzerfaust.” Panzerfaust had previously been optioned for a media deal.
Rat Queens was optioned by Weta Workshops, Heavy Metal, and Pukeko Pictures.
The first issue of Rat Queens came in a regular cover and a Fionna Staples Variant. The first issue old out and was reprinted as an Image Firsts edition. The first issue had a print run of about 25,000 copies

  1. Me likes, me likes a lot… This was one of the few #1 I held onto 4-5 copies, even submitted one to CGC and it came back a 9.8. 🙂

    1. how long does it take on avg for a round trip to send and get back from CGC

      1. I submitted mine during Wizard World Austin the weekend before Thanksgiving, I think I got it back around mid January or so. I think regular submissions (the lowest cost) can take up to 3 months according to what I recall on their website.

  2. I ♥ Rat Queens its one of my top favorite comics hands down. Glad I got a bunch of copies day of release & 2 variants of issue 1. Now at 25,000 for a print run is this considered a small print run for an image book or just a modest print run? Also would it be better to hold on to the comics till after the show is released or when the market heats up if the show doesn’t make it?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    1. Guessing when to sell is always the hard part. I like to sell to cover my initial investment and take a profit and them sell off additional if the prices continue to rise. Sure, you might leave some money on the table, but you are also not left holding the bag if prices go back down.

  3. So happy that this series got picked up for the tv deal. This one of my favorite series at Image, and it will be a blast to see it on the small screen 😀

  4. This comic is one of the true hidden gems of Image comics, funny and Upchurch is an amazing artist. The cartoon will never equal the adult flair of the comic, but it will raise awareness of the comic creating demand. Does everyone know where the 1st app is located?

  5. Love it. Got a 9.8 SS with both Upchurch and Weibe. Also got the variant. Doubt I’ll sell either because it’s one of my favorite books.

    1. Yeah, I might dump a few of my regular #1 covers but my CGC and another raw #1 will likely stay in my collection.

      1. Guy took $40 best offer for the SS on ebay two months ago. Couldn’t believe it.

      2. Yeah, sometimes if I’m selling something and it’s been sitting for over 30 days, I’ll start accepting offers lower than I usually am willing to take myself, just to get rid of them quicker.

  6. off topic** I went to the NYC special comic con yesterday.X Factor 6 was the book on fire seen most of them for 100 bucks..also walking dead 63 was going for 80-100 i seen one for 200 I asked why he said because if Chew ..Southern Bastards and Nail Bitter were going for 15-20 on most dealers ..1st live wire 50-100 ..seen the Mcfarland Variant for Manifest destiny going for 10

    1. Thanks Mel. Being that it was Father’s Day weekend I didn’t make the trip up. But thanks for the info. I miss the days when you could go to a show or convention and get good deals. Not like that anymore.
