Rat Queens First appearance

With the news breaking this weekend that Rat Queens got optioned for an animated series, people went scrambling to get copies of the first issue. But their first appearance in print form should not be overlooked either.
I realized I forgot to mention it when someone asked the question. Rat Queens first appeared in preview form in Image Comics What's Next. Copies can be found starting at $4. Copies on BIN are going for around $11.
Lone Star Comics has copies starting at $10 for 8.5’s. Thanks to Conrad P. at Obsessive Compulsive Comic Book Collecting for pointing it out.

  1. Honestly I bought 2 copies of #1 back in the fall on CHU’s suggestion, and I figured that they were going to end up as just another bust. Not that there is anything wrong with that, because as we know, that’s the way comic flipping works (they can’t all be winners). With that said, I noticed that single copies of #1 are going for $20-$25 already! I’m sitting on 2 copies if #1, any thoughts on when I should dump them for optimal cash?
Thank you for always providing the best comic speculation on the Internet! I don’t trust anyone else!

    1. You could always sell one now and take a profit and hold the other for sale later if prices continue to rise. I never like to be in to something for too long as prices fluctuate.
I know there are more copies out there. Hitting LCS today to find more copies.

  2. There are two ways to approach in selling in this situation in my opinion:
Two copies? Paid retail for them? No interest in keeping them? Dump them both now for a nice profit margin.
Two copies? Paid retail for them? Some interest in wanting to know if the show is successful? Dump one now to make your money back plus nice profit margin, sell the other at later time (since you aren’t losing any money now as the first sale made you your spent money already).
Knowing the perfect time to sell in any case? Never, it’s impossible. The safe bet is sell it when you know you can make your money back + profit. If you want to gamble, hold onto them both and hope they turn out to be Walking Dead type crazy.. Today they can be worth 5 times their cover. Tomorrow they could be worth 100x their cover.. a week from now, you couldn’t give them away. That’s the market, that’s how it works, no one ever knows until it happens. Good luck either way! 🙂

  3. Thanks guys! I think I’ll take your advice and test the market now, and safely get 5x cover for them, and hold onto the other to see what the market will command at a later date.
P.S. I love the gamble! That’s my favorite part of comic flipping! It’s such a rush!

  4. It’s important to note that the Rat Queens story and the Deadly Class story, in the Image What’s Next comic, are not the average “preview” stories, they’re original stories not found in the monthly comic series and they’re both great reads.
