Previews gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s the spotlight of new books coming out of November Previews for the smaller publishers that include Dark Horse, IDW, Image and others.
Dark Horse Books
Mignola takes on Frankenstein! Frankenstein’s creator lies dead in the icy grip of the Arctic, and the monster searches for a new purpose. Just as he thinks he’s found one with a group of unlikely companions, disaster strikes–and the monster is catapulted out of Mary Shelley’s novel and into the world of Hellboy.
Bridging Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein novella and Mike Mignola’s Frankenstein Underground, this series brings together Mignola, Scott Allie, Ben Stenbeck, Brennan Wagner, and Clem Robins for an all-new horror adventure in the far north.
There is also a pretty cool Mike Mignola Variant Cover for you Mignola fans out there as well.
Hattie and Anna knew that executing their plan to kill ”Whitey” Donovan would be difficult, but they never anticipated their path to find him would be a literal inferno of war.
Hunted by the evil Tyson and his devil dogs, attacked by Confederate soldiers–with no allies yet to be found–can they possibly survive long enough to find the vengeance they so desperately seek?
I brought this one up in my last previews as a book of interest as well so I’m all in just from the solicitations. I love a good revenge story. I really dig this issues regular cover as well.
Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #2
Skulldigger: well-meaning hero or violent murderer?
As Skeleton Boy trains with an uncompromising Skulldigger, a hard-nosed detective seeks them out, determined to link the vigilante to the murders that orphaned the boy.
But soon super-villain Grimjim’s plans come to a head, threatening to throw Spiral City into chaos.
Black Hammer from Jeff Lemire, it’s a no brainer. This is a series everyone should be reading.
Stranger Things: Into the Fire #1
Years after escaping Hawkins Lab, two of Dr. Brenner’s former subjects seek to live normal lives.
When news reaches them that the lab was shut down, they go on a harrowing search for Nine, a powerful pyrokinetic whose shattered psyche threatens to burn them all to ashes if they can’t find her and free her from her own malevolent imagination.
”I can say with certainty this book is well worth reading — it adds to the TV show in surprising and satisfying ways.” -AiPT!
A pyrokinetic Hawkins Lab subject!
See the true effects of Dr. Brenner’s meddling experiments.
I love Stranger Things, I don’t care how cliché that sounds, it’s a great show and I dig the side stories surrounding the main Netflix show base story on it’s characters and such.
Tales from Harrow County: Death’s Choir #2 (Tyler Crook Variant Cover)
As the specter of World War II haunts Harrow County, specters of a more literal sort begin to invade.
When a ghostly song begins to call forth the spirits of the long buried, Bernice must work to save the place she calls home, even if some residents may reject her help.
For you fans of Harrow County, this continues the second story arc of this new mini-series and you have to go with Tyler Crook’s variants for this series if you pick the up. Underrated artist if you ask me, needs more love.
In Nazi occupied Paris, the death toll mounts, but the killer’s motive and whereabouts remain unknown.
The investigation uncovers a name–a doctor, whose skill and expertise match that of the meticulous crimes. But is this doctor the sadistic killer operating in the shadows, or just another victim of the Gestapo?
You can still nab The Butcher of Paris #1 from TFAW as well. Great looking book with potential I think. It’s a must on my read and check out list.
I love World War and Drama/Mystery/Murder type stories so yeah, this new series got my attention by just mentioning Nazi’s and killer..
You can still pre-order The Butcher of Paris #1 from TFAW as well before FOC kicks in and they stop accepting orders.
IDW Books
Marvel Action Spider-Man #1 (Cover A – Ossio)
Readers ages 8-12 can get tangled up in these all-new adventures of Spider-Man and his amazing friends!
Peter, Miles, and Gwen have completed their internships at the Daily Bugle-now they’re all shook up over their latest foe! A Marvelous new era continues!
This series saw some nice secondary market value for it’s 1:10 variants. Could be worthy of keeping a close eye on as they reboot the series with a new #1.
Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Blind Prophet #1 (of 5)
A never-before-seen chapter of the Ghost Recon game series! Before the events of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Nomad and Walker are teammates in Afghanistan.
When a mysterious Sudanese warlord with a deadly history with the Ghosts reemerges, Nomad and Walker are sent in to take him down… but when they learn the warlord’s identity, it throws into doubt everything they think they know about the Ghosts themselves.
Don’t miss the epic story that leads to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint!”
Tom Clancy has his followers so this could be a great read with PK Johnson writing.
Image Comics
MINISERIES PREMIERE Within three weeks, hundreds of millions of healthy people worldwide contract various forms of aggressive cancer, and the proliferation, seemingly a viral outbreak, stumps the best scientific minds available.
But after a leading cancer researcher loses his wife and watches his nine-year-old daughter begin to succumb to the same illness, he must race against the clock to end a global conspiracy that could propel the world straight into WWIII…or worse.
I’m usually weary of a new Hawkins book from Top Cow but if this one is done right, as it’s yet another apocalypse story, it could be a great read. I am digging the cover art though.
END OF STORY ARC The death of Teeg Lawless. The final issue of the CRUEL SUMMER arc.
It’s Brubaker and Phillips.
The master narrator and story teller ending another arc of his hit series Criminal. These are just a must, for the read of course.
‘THE DEAD SEA,’ Part Four The evil ‘Mother’ may rule the universe with an iron hand, but even mothers were young once-and after growing up on an ice-covered planet, it’s easy to see why she might have an ice-covered heart, too.
Lemire never disappoints and this is just a title I look forward to each month.
Dead Eyes #4 (Cover A – McCrea)
Dead Eyes’ secret identity gets a little less secret as the mafia situation comes to a head and he finds a brutal new enemy in Boston’s finest.
So now we’re getting into story that we haven’t already read since the name change a long hiatus.
I’m really digging the cover as well, love the look of this cover art.
Even as Loretta and her family warily follow Grandpa Judd into the dark alleys of New York City’s Chinatown in search of a cure, her daughter Meg is beginning to embrace her burgeoning transformation.
New series, great read so far. It’s Lemire, what more could you ask for?
Glory’s caravan continues to eat up the miles in their race against the clock-and the gang of body snatchers, unscrupulous surgeons, and crooked cops on their tail.
I love Remender but the long gap in this series almost killed it. I’m gonna have to go back and read the first story arc but plan on picking these up to read all at once and just hope that there’s not more delays.
Gideon Falls #20 (Cover A – Sorrentino)
2019 EISNER AWARD WINNER, BEST NEW SERIES ‘THE PENTOCULUS,’ Part Four Safe to say that in Gideon Falls, when you find a deep, dark lake, it’s best not to drink the water. A lesson that Angie and Norton learn the hard way.
Another Lemire book. Do I need to explain? I really dig Sorrentino’s art work on these cover A’s as well.
SERIES PREMIERE! From SIMON ROY (Prophet), Sideways Award-winning author DANIEL M. BENSEN (Junction), ARTYOM TRAKHANOV (UNDERTOW), JASON WORDIE (GOD COUNTRY), and HASSAN OTSMANE-ELHAOU (Red Sonja) comes a sci-fi adventure equal parts Conan the Barbarian, Mad Max, and The Expanse. Of all the tribes that dwell in the hot ruins of far-future North America, the Hudsoni reign supreme, but even they fear and obey the godlike Devas. When the Devas warn of an old-world demon in the conquered city of Shikka-Go, Hudsoni war chief First Knife decides to deal with the threat personally.
You know, I never read Prophet but I’m looking forward to this series.
NEW STORY ARC! * THE SERIES? It’s back. * JON AND SUZE? Also back. * THE BANK? MUST BE TAKEN DOWN. * THIS ARC? THE LAST. Gasp! * BULLET LISTS? How do you turn them off in Microsoft Word The highly anticipated return of the #1 New York Times bestselling humor/romance series SEX CRIMINALS kicks off its final story arc. Praised for its emotionally compelling characters, taut storytelling, and comedic genius, Time Magazine called it ‘the best comic of the year’ upon launch. Since its debut, SEX CRIMINALS has garnered coverage from such mainstream media outlets as Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, NPR, and The Washington Post and won multiple awards. SEX CRIMINALS follows the adventures of Suzie and Jon-a couple who discover they can stop time when they have sex. This final chapter sees the reunion of writer MATT FRACTION (NOVEMBER, Hawkeye) and CHIP ZDARSKY (THE WHITE TREES, Daredevil).
This series had so much going for it and then it got hit with delay, after delay, after delay.. It’s one I’m gonna keep an eye on and hope that it stays consistent with new books before I take the plunge before reading.
Perhaps if they stop reminding us how many media outlets praise the book in the past and just effing shutup and keep working on the book without delays, we can finally see this story through to the end.
There are so many of these series like Sex Criminals that manage to destroy themselves. I was just digging through one of my boxes and came across some Snotgirl #1’s. You want to talk about a disaster, O’Malley has managed to deliver fourteen issues in forty months….
I didnt even bother with Snotgirl…. Read first issue and determined I’m not a tweenage girl hip enough to read that one… 😉
Snotgirl really let me down. He has has nothing but amazing stories in my mind but then snotgirl happened and I wasn’t sure what was happening! I know most writers/creators have at least one flop so I hope this is that flop for O’Malley !
I think out of all of these titles the one I want to read most is The Butcher of Paris #1. The Parisians had enough on their hands with the Nazi’s, but a serial killer too, and it’s based on real life events. Must read for me.
I think I’m in the same boat as you.. that one is the top pick I think that I’m hoping is a great read.
If you haven’t read Graham’s arc on Prophet (2012) Starts at #21, it’s a must read. Took a stupid character and made him interesting. Just an excellent and underrated series.
