Welcome to Advance reviews. This week we have several Gems just waiting to be explored. Dive in with us as we tackle F.O.C. 1/20/20.
In this issue we get Hal Jordan training a new recruit. A distress call is received and the new lantern and Hal go an answer it.
We have the first appearances of the New Guardians of the Universe. These are created by Mother Juna (1st physical appearance). Other first appearances include Rykaktoro – New Green Lantern in training (might be a one shot character or could turn to be possibly more than that).
Marvel let retailers preview the first issue of Gwen Stacey, and while there was no lettering or dialogue in the advance preview to tell the story in words, the artwork was tale telling in of it’s own.
Todd Nauck does an incredible job in bringing the story to life. In the first issue we see George Stacey tracking down leads on the Lucky Lobo Gang. This leads to gun shots and Mobsters and we get a final cut page of the Green Goblin and Crime Master together.
Coming out of Boom Studios is an interesting new series and read. This new title begins with three teens that find an alien egg that hatches and bonds them together in ways that they have just begun to explore. This issue explores the first bond, telepathy between each other. They also discover that the alien has a taste for humans…
This was a One Shot story. Enter Stygmata, a demon from another Plane of existence. He is sucking the life force out of humans. Dr Strange Stops him. The End.
Marvels Spider-Man Black Cat Strikes #2
This has flashbacks to the good ‘ol days when Spider-Man and the Black Cat would team up. Now back to the present, where the two are sleeping together.
Spider-Man and his moral conscience tell Black Cat to return the stolen items in her apartment .. what will issue 3 bring us?
I am pleasantly surprised with this title. David’s journey lands him in his Heroes apartment where we find Spider-Man and his teenage daughter May present.
Daredevil shows up and they discuss how important David is. Daredevil tells Parker that something is hunting David and we get a silhouette shot of something that looks like a werewolf on one of the final panes in the book. First appearance character or existing character to re-emerge?
Nebula acquires an upgrade to her tech and it causes havoc to her system.
In the process she fights Devos who was there for someone else but claims Nebula is the great prize. We get a nice drawn out battle scene between the two of them.
In the end Nebula escapes the space station but is shot down on a nearby planet. A stranger rescues her but now Nebula cant remember anything. Is this Stranger a new face or is s/he an existing character? It could be a new character, but we could be wrong. The next issue will likely bring more to light on this story and the characters.
Conan, Strange and Doom team up to fight Kulan Gath. Strange is wearing an Iron Man suit. The battle ensues and each of them take turns trying to defeat Kulan. Halfway through the battle Strange takes Dr Vodoo to the afterlife to be resurrected. Strange returns and Conan uses a necklace to strangle Kulan.
