Welcome to my own weekly spec which includes my weekly drek picks. I pick what I think will be winners, not only if you make money by flipping but winners as in either a great read or just awesome art.
Then there’s the pesky drek, the comic you should avoid altogether or not fall into the buying every variant trap.
It’s a really small week for new comics. Almost seems like it’s just a DC week and a bunch of trades and hardcovers for the most part with a few Image has a few books mixed in.
DC Picks
Swamp Thing Giant #4 is out and I’ve really been enjoying these oversized 100 page books. Great reader books at a great price.
Nothing, they literally have no floppy copies hitting store shelves this week.
Indie and Small Publisher Picks
The Boys turned out to be a great show on Amazon Prime. So for those who read the original series, this next volume should be on your pick up list with The Boys Dear Becky #1 coming out from Dynamite.
Next on the pick list is Nailbiter Returns #1. First series was great, I’m hoping this one keeps me entertained as well. We posted an advanced sneak peek preview a week or so ago.
Now on with the dreaded “drek” pick, every writer and artist worst nightmare when it comes to selling their hard work. The book to avoid or not fall victim to in buying at ratio inflated prices.
Seriously, do not pay $9.99 for the J. Scott Campbell cover for Birds of Prey #1. Don’t get me wrong, when Campbell draws something other than his wife (and Mary Jane) as the cover art, it’s usually top notch but I’m so tired of seeing the same face and same body on every damn cover he puts out for any female character.
Dude’s women haven’t changed since Gen13.
That’s true..
If I were JSC I’d spend all day drawing my wife also.
J s Campbells wife looks suspiciously like every woman he draws
I think he’s publicly claimed he uses or used her as his model. Dude needs to branch out though.. find a new face and body to draw…
