  1. just scored a sandman #4 for $30 and I am picking up detective comics #1023&the flash #757.still looking for doom patrol #14&all issues of infinity inc&stars&stripes love you all blind adam out

    1. See that is the nature of the beast for me…I’ve had the whole run of Sandman comics and it is a beautiful set I got as most of them were still coming out when I bought them. But then, for a good while I had all those infernal McFarlane Infinity Inc issues…love McFarlane and loved those books, but forever they were going nowhere…ended up selling them off and here they are back in focus finally. Oy. All I know is, my Sandman book are going nowhere. lol

      1. They’re heating up? Why? Not to make you feel worse but I found a stack of them in a dollar bin last year, they seemed worthless so I almost tossed them last time I did a purge.

  2. Just pulled the trigger on Teen Titans #12 from my LCS & it was packaged with the other 3 “Gotham’s resistance” books so I paid 200 total…adding it to my dark nights characters collection from the 1st series…wish I didn’t miss out on these earlier when they cost 4 bucks each

    1. Somehow I did too…there was a little confusion early on about where Batman Who Laughs debuted…and then once it was settled, it was too late for me. Still haven’t gotten one, myself.

  3. I picked up a NM copy of the underground comic, Spaced #1 from ‘74. It is rumored that this book is where George Lucas got the idea for Leia’s hairstyle. Take a look at the cover and decide for yourself.

      1. According to Comixjoint, there was a single print run of 10,000 by Comics and Comix. The run was split between two covers, one with bats in the background, one without. Interesting to me is that this seems to be a precursor to variant covers. Does anyone know of an example like this before ’74? The raw 9.2 copy I bought was without bats.

I read elsewhere that the creator later decided he no longer liked his work and destroyed all copies of this book he could find.

Mycomicshop has a CGC 9.4 and a CGC 9.0 available, one with bats, one without.

          1. I can’t find any information about how it was split, although I’ve seen some sites mistakenly refer to one or the other as a second print.

  4. I’m grabbing:

-Empyre #0 FF-it’s been a while since I collected an event. I’m ready to be hurt again.
-Strange Academy #2- ok, so I read #1 and it was an enjoyable enough set up that I’m back for the follow up. I had a Skottie Young bias that Poyo convinced me to get over. Issue 1 has a huge cast of characters and I Skottie can wrangle them well enough to get us interested, we may have a new Runaways or next generation team book here. Yes, it’s a bit formulaic. Professor X’s school anybody? But what isn’t in the Big Two?
-Adventureman #2 another book with a lot of potential. Like a more highly polished Black Hammer. At least it might be if it keeps going strong.

  5. Got to say the DC books were pretty meh this week. Spotlight on Gamma Knife, Suzi Starr in JL Odyssey 22 (1st app. 15) which makes me think she could stick around. Justice League is just treading water until the next big writer comes on. Bendis telling a three-page story over 22 pages but as always Impulse is a character who I think is highly undervalued. New villain over in Superman as well this week but the bigger play is that they pretty much established Khalid Nassour for bigger things. Lois Lane petered out and didn’t focus enough on the actual titular subject. Wonder Woman officially established Jason as an LGBTQ character while also turning Paula van Gunther into an Amazon. Steve Orlando is about to end his run with the annual so looks like we’ll see a reset for most of what’s going on in the book spec-Wise but Max Lord does return so Justice League 1 would have been the play if we had actually had a movie. Didn’t read any of the Bat- stuff yet.

  6. Found a Justice League #30 1:25 Mad variant and Justice League #31 1:25 Batman 66 variant for $20 each.

  7. Batman #94 story is lame; was expecting more with that sad cover. Detective comics #1023 got me really hyped for the Joker War possibilities; cool cover too.

    1. “Batman #94 story is lame; was expecting more with that sad cover”

I’ve never been impressed with Tynion’s writing.. his stuff always starts off hot. It’s like a fart in the car with the windows down.. it’s gone faster than it arrived..

  8. I’ll be curious to see how the Funko variants for Thor 1 wind up doing. With FCBD being canceled I imagine a lot of stores axed their original orders for the mystery boxes. And most of my devoted Funko customers aren’t comic people so they may not keep the books in nice shape.

    1. All I imagine when I contemplate buying a funko is how frustrated I’m going to be in a year’s time when I have to figure out whether to sell it on ebay for $1.99, drive it to good will, or just throw it in the trash.

          1. I received a Science Dog #25 (Image Comics) in my shipment from Diamond today. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

            1. #25? No. The only Science Dog I know about was an invincible tie in that ran two issues. Can you get us a picture of it?

        1. I have only 3 Funko: an Alien, Sandman’s Death, and a Gelatinous Cube. I don’t foresee buying any more. However, I said I would never buy any more toys and picked up the Diamond Select Black Hole Vincent and Old Bob set. I also said no more Funko after owning the Alien and Death. Couldn’t pass up the Gelatinous Cube, though.

          1. I do not own a single funko pop, but I might have to break that streak with an Old Bob/Vincent set…need to look into this.

I also wanted an iron man war machine one…but then decided they didn’t do it justice.

            1. Oh, that wasn’t a pop set…they do have Vincent as a Pop though..

They should have an old Bon funko pop…

      1. I stopped buying Funko.. for environmental purposes. I’d rather see all that vinyl get made into records I can play.. 🙂

        1. True. It’s why a lot of my weekly comic reading is digital. I don’t mind about back issues printed before say 1980 something. The continuous churn of merchandise is a bit of a mental stumbling block, though.

          1. It’s weird that a half dozen people commented and it seems no one understood. I wasn’t speaking about the value (or lack thereof) of the Funko Pop. It comes in a mystery box with a t-shirt, a Pop, and a variant cover of Thor 1. The Donny Cates Thor 1. Given that orders will likely have been small for the mystery boxes, I doubt there will be a ton of these variant comics out there. There are three covers. A 65% regular cover, a 25% variant, and a 10% variant.

There are only about 40 listings on eBay so far, and only a handful of closed items. Not much volume for a Cates Thor.

            1. Yeah, I guess my point was that I just wouldn’t buy the box because I’d be stuck with a pop and wouldn’t know what to do with it.

    1. They had a header message saying their shipment was delayed and they would have them Thursday.

FWIW, my new comic shipments are delayed a day at least 4 times a year. Sometimes UPS fault, sometimes weather, sometimes Diamond.

  9. Getting really tired of Diamond sending my LCS so many damages. They filled an entire case with damages this week. It’s ridiculous on a whole other level now. Seems like some online retailers have no problem sending me F-VF copies of new releases. Meanwhile, UCS (DC distributor) is sending out gems. I may have to quit buying books that are distributed from Diamond. I’m missing out on stuff that I want, **** Diamond. Thanks, that felt good.

    1. I use lunar distribution and gotta say that their shipping practices are amazing. The comic box is inside a larger box and bubble packing between the two. Have had zero damages so far. Hopefully they continue the practice and dont change for expediency.

    2. First week in over a month my LCS actually had all my books with no damages. Still waiting on 3 books from the past few weeks

  10. Bought a solid mid grade of Green Lantern #87 for a good price. Looks like it has potential to press higher. I will find that out when it gets here next week.

  11. I think the impact of unemployment bonuses ending in a couple weeks is already here. We normally look at 10-15 collections a week and buy 2/3 of what we look at. The last two weeks I’ve seen over 25 collections each week through the door and I have received another 20 phone calls from folks wanting us to visit them to look at their stuff which we aren’t doing unless it’s a huge collection given coronavirus. I’ll visit someone’s house in clothes I burn after if it’s a big collection but sorry I am not going into your house to look at $500 worth of books. First month of unemployment bonuses I had lots of customers wanting to buy extra stuff because they had more money than normal. Now I’m getting folks panicking over August bills. Be curious to see if that ripple effect hits eBay. Seemed like there were lots of extra buyers the first month of lockdown.

  12. Very light week for pick ups:
Something is Killing the Children #8 (Cover A-did not see variant at any store I stopped in)

    Spec pick ups:
Ravencroft Ruins: Carnage (8 copies at cover price-have sold 4 copies within the last 24 hours at $20-$24 each)
Venom #25 Cover A for cover price
Daredevil #610 2nd print (Vigil cover) for cover price! Can’t believe what people are paying for this book $50-$70

    Good hunting everyone!

  13. I agree with
the One Guy Who Owns A Comic Shop, I also sell both comics and sports cards on E-bay and have been amazed how high some of the prices have gone the last few months for stuff that hardly anyone even wanted a year ago, but in the last few weeks I have not seen nearly the demand or high prices being paid as much as the previous couple of months. Could be other factors in play also but likely people starting to run out of stimulus money or tax refunds.

  14. My wife was also looking for the Something is killing the children #8 variant to add to her collection but no luck finding it. I did pre-order #10 1:25 connecting variant from Boom!’s website since everyone else wanted $80+ for it.

  15. How about Venom #3 cover A? $400 for a cgc 9.8? I sold probably 6 of these for good money in he months after release, but kept my two best copies for grading…I think it’s time to send them in to cgc.

Last time I did that was a year ago for Naomi….by he time they came back price had dropped in half….I don’t think the Knull effect is stronger though….

    1. I’m in the same boat. I think there is still plenty of time and room for additional growth even. It looks like the “Knull is Coming” is still quite a few months out just based on solicits and other books that appear to be set ups for it (Like Web of venom:Wraith in Sept). I have two really nice copies and a second print as well. I’m still irritated at myself as I was pretty good about buying up all the follow up printings throughout the run….but of course…somehow can’t find/didn’t buy that 3rd print of #3.

      1. I don’t know what it is..but I really procrastinate when it comes to sending books for grading. It should be a no brainer…but I always put it off. Something about knowing how long those books will be gone for. Not to mention, the worry about “what if something happens to them along the way”.
