Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/20/21
Massive week this week.
The next slate of Future State books arrive this week.
Future State Catwoman #1 – Including a cover by Fan Favorite Artgerm
Future State Immortal Wonder Woman #1 – Including a cover by fan favorite Peach Momoko
Future State Nightwing #1 – Seeing sellouts of this early at Midtown.
Future State SHAZAM #1 – Same as Nightwing on the early sellouts.
Future State Superman Worlds Of War #1 – Superman in an arena style battle.
New #1’s
Crimson Flower #1 – Matt Kindt’s new series. After losing her family in a violent home invasion, a woman uses folk tales to cope. In a blood-soaked journey toward revenge, she tracks down the man responsible for her family’s deaths, only to discover a startling government plot – to weaponize folk tales and use them to raise children into super assassins. Think ‘Once and Future’ meets ‘Department of Truth’.
Iron Fist Heart Of The Dragon #1 – Larry Hama of GI Joe fame writes Iron Fist. The David Aja cover is awesome.
Maestro War And Pax #1 – Peter David continues his Maestro run.
Abbott 1973 #1 – Second series for the recently optioned comic series kicks off. There is a Thank You Variant for it.
Gung-Ho Sexy Beast #1 – Second series for Gung-Ho. Great looking A cover.
Rain Like Hammers #1 – New Brandon Graham series. Eugene is a new inhabitant of Elephant, a walking city on the desert world of Crown Majesty. Far from friends and family, he spends most of his time navigating melancholy daydreams, toying with alien technology, and researching the best places to find high-quality fast food. At best, his life is lonely and monotonous – but all of that changes when a mysterious force begins destroying Crown Majesty’s walking cities!
Ones to Watch
Star Wars Doctor Aphra #7 – Goes without saying to grab Star Wars books featuring first appearances. Rumor of one here. Frison Provides a 1:25 Variant worth grabbing if you find it as it is going for crazy money.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #113 – First cover appearance of Lita on both the A and B covers.
Killadelphia #12 – Great series and two great cover artists on this one, Todd McFarlane and Bill Sienkiewicz provide covers.
Black Cat #2 – Black Cat gets an Anti-Venom suit of her own. King in Black tie-in. Peach Momoko Alien B Cover on this one. Also a 1:50 Adam Hughes Variant
Notable Reprints
Daredevil #25 2nd Print – Awesome 2nd print cover with the Elektra Daredevil interior art. Also a 1:25 variant that is in demand.
Symbiote Spider-Man King In Black #1 2nd Print – The Mr. E interior art cover has sold out in a couple of places. Worth grab. Check Mycomicshop for this one.
Small Press Pick of the Week
I Breathed A Body #1 – New series from AfterShock Comics. It’s The Social Network meets Hellraiser. When the world’s biggest influencer posts something irredeemably horrific online, the world changes in an instant. Now it’s up to his social media manager, Anne Stewart, to fan the flames of outrage and create a sensationalist campaign that rewrites the rules of “banned content.” Thus begins a carnival of lust, revulsion, desire, and disgust – all for viral videos. Written by Zac Thompson. The Variant for this one is insane.
Pick of the Week
King In Black #3 – Have to see how Donny Cates raises the stakes after last issue’s events. If the Spoiler cover is to be believed this may effect Cate’s other series.
Looking at the kib cvr, isn’t thor stuck in a dream state right now?
Unrelated.
Lita has been on several covers so far. It’s cover of “adult” Lita though.
*first of adult Lita
