CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 12/24/21

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 AMERICA #1 | MARVEL | 2017
Based on the Top 10, you’ll notice that comic collectors and speculators are all about “what’s next.” Right now, that’s America Chavez. With fans already priced out of her first appearance, the trend of moving on to the first issue of an ongoing series continues here. 15 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 177%, and had a high sale of $222.21 for a CGC 9.8.

#12 WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #90 | MARVEL | 1992
There are several debated first cameo appearances of Spider-Man 2099. This is one of them as it features a pull-out poster of 2099 and Spider-Man swinging side by side through New York. 19 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 248%, and had a high sale of $145 for a CGC 9.8.

#13 WHAT IF? #18 NEWSSTAND | MARVEL | 1979
This first unofficial “Evil Doctor Strange” was so hot that even the newsstand was trending. It sold 19 copies, had a 7-day trend of 240%, and had a high sale of $52.51 for an NM raw copy.

#14 WARLOCK AND THE INFINITY WATCH #2 | MARVEL | 1992
With Adam Warlock appearing in the MCU, there is speculation that there is potential for an Infinity Watch to form within the film franchise. While it seems that Marvel has moved past infinity stone-based storylines, the first appearance of the Infinity Watch in this issue is trending with 78 copies sold, had a 7-day trend of 188%, and had a high sale of $90 for a CBCS 9.8.

#15 STRANGE ACADEMY #14 | MARVEL | 2021
This issue features the first appearance of Gaslamp, a dark magician who grants wishes (with grave consequences). This new villain has significant traction with 36 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 171%, and had a high sale of $14 for a raw copy.

#16 STAR WARS CRIMSON REIGN #1 STEVEN CUMMINGS (1:50) | MARVEL | 2021
This anticipated new series features the first appearances of The Archivist, Imara Vex, Bright, Sear, and Marina. Any book with that many firsts is worth keeping a close eye on. This week, the market heat around this issue helped this high ratio 1:50 variant hit big high sales. It sold 10 copies, had a 7-day trend of 160%, and a high sale of $140.50 for a raw copy.

#17 THE GOOD ASIAN #1 | IMAGE | 2021
This 2021 title by writer Pornsak Pichetshote was recently on EW’s Top 10 comics and Fortune Magazine’s Top 10 Books of the year (and TONS of others). This spotlight on its quality and cultural importance helped it trend for the first time since its release earlier this year. This type of attention does not go unnoticed by Hollywood. This week, 36 copies sold, had a 7-day trend of 146% and had a high sale of $70 for a CGC 9.8. (We covered this on the Forum back in May as one to watch)

#18 YOUNG AVENGERS #1 | MARVEL | 2005
While packed with first appearances, Kate Bishop’s first appearance is one main driver for current sales. However, there is significantly more chatter around the team appearing soon.
This week, it sold 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 78%, and had a high sale of $1,089.62 for a CGC 9.8.

#19 THOR #1 | MARVEL | 2014
This first ongoing issue featuring a female Thor (later revealed to be Jane Foster) is picking up steam as we get closer to a THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER trailer. 16 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 98%, and had a high sale of $330.19 for a CGC 9.8.

#20 MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN #33 MATEUS MANHANINI (1:25) | MARVEL | 2021
Rounding out the lists is a great Miles Morales variant by Mateus Manhanini. This variant is well-timed with the new teaser for SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE as it seems to capture the overall “feel” of that film. 14 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 99%, and had a high sale of $54.15 for a raw copy.

  1. I believe Gaslamp’s first appearance is in Strange Academy #13…unless that is considered a cameo…but he is named there too.
