RUNNERS UP

11. Wolverine #1 – Pat Gleason – Adamantium Head – Virgin (1:100)
Fans are pumped for this new Wolverine run, and a lucky few have secured this high-ratio variant. Some may look at it and think of this book or this book, and that wouldn’t be surprising, considering it’s another Pat Gleason variant. It’s become a bit of his trademark, and whenever he delivers that style to a series fans are pumped about, it typically does well on the aftermarket. We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 16%, with a high sale of $175 for a NM copy and a current NM raw of $90.

12. Venom #3 – SDCC 2018 – Previews
It was Knull all along! As you may have heard, Knull is coming to the big screen in Venom 3, which took everyone by surprise. But once they caught a glimpse, the blitz was on for the first appearance of Knull. A lucky few secured a preview copy of this book available at SDCC back in 2018 and limited to 4,000 copies. It’s one of the rarer ‘variants’ available for this book, but it’s been declining for years as fans have put some distance between themselves and the character. Check your LCS for a copy! We tracked eight copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 30%, with a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $60.

13. 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank #1
This book has been blowing up recently as it was announced Liam Neeson was set to star and produce in a motion picture. Since its debut, fans have begged this series to be adapted. There were inklings of one since 2019, but it took until 2024 for a little more concrete information to hit the airwaves, and now, it’s off to the races. We tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 49%, with a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $21.

14. Superman: The Man Of Steel #18
Back in the day, Doomsday was the ultimate threat. He killed Superman, for Pete’s sake. His first appearance in this book was often touted as a retirement book to acquire in the 90’s. However, we know how that turned out. But, over the years, creators have continued to tweak and utilize Doomsday when it fits the narrative. It appears he’s set for another big return if the tease in Superman #15 is any indication. That, and in Superman & Lois next month, and fans are excited. Trailer footage leaked during SDCC, which got them primed, but now that it’s almost here, they are opting to revisit the first appearance of Doomsday. We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 10%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $13.

15. Howard The Duck #1
Gwenpool has been rising the charts the past few weeks, and a majority of that interest was spawned because of Fortnite. When they choose to highlight a certain character, fans take notice. The most recent is Gwenpool, whose first full appearance in this book has been on a tear recently. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 35%, with a high sale of $105 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $24.

16. The Uncanny X-Men Vol.1 #221 – Direct
If you pay attention to the release slate of comics throughout the year, you may have noticed Mr. Sinister pops up a lot in X-Men-centric titles. Like, a ton. Front cover, full center of attention, the whole nine. He got a spotlight at SDCC; he was a major part of X-Men ’97, and the rumor is still circulating that we will see the incredible Javier Bardem in the future. Mr. Sinister appears to be being put on a pedestal, but to what end? Some fans thought securing his first appearance now rather than later was the move. Ten copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 85%, with a high sale of $201 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $45.

17. The Uncanny X-Men Vol.1 #266
It’s been a big year for Gambit. He stole the limelight in X-Men ’97, is leading a new generation of mutants in the comics, and played a big role in Deadpool and Wolverine. His first cover appearance, and often the book cited as his first appearance, has been hot all year. Now that a little of the heat has dissipated, numerous collectors thought now was the time to secure a copy of the major key. That and the hype surrounding the Whatnot mystery packs heavily featuring X-Men 97’ sent some collectors on a search. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 35%, with a high sale of $350 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $195.

18. The New Mutants Vol.1 #98 – Rob Liefeld – Regular
Deadpool and Wolverine have come and gone, and we’ve seen a crazy year for the first appearance of Deadpool in this book. Of course, fans were eager to secure a copy in the lead-up to the film. We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 12%, with a high sale of $1,440 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $320.

19. The Ultimates #4 – Francesco Mobili (1:25)
The Ultimates has been building toward the reveal in this issue. The Maker has been toying with Dr. Doom before finally revealing the secret of one Reed Richards. That secret was how he would go on to become that universe, Dr. Doom. Trippy indeed, but the 1:25 variant cover from Francesco Mobili nailed that sentiment! We tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 19%, with a high sale of $32 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $24.

20. The Department Of Truth #25 – Martin Simmonds (1:10)
Fans have been so excited to have this series back after some inconsistent releases. And what better way to fan the hype flames than to deliver a fantastic 1:10 variant that homages the first issue? To top it off, the issue reveals the “truth” about the JFK assassination and was released on 9/11. This series is quite “meta,” and they might not have been able to be more so, even if they had tried their hardest. We tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 42%, with a high sale of $15 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $10.
