RUNNERS UP
11 Witchblade #3 – Marc Silvestri – X-Men #251 Homage (1:25)
It is crazy to think that one scene in Deadpool and Wolverine has reignited the popularity of a classic cover. We’re speaking, of course, of a multiverse-hopping Deadpool running into Wolverine strung up on a giant “X,” a reference to the absolutely iconic X-MEN #251 cover. As the popularity of that cover grew, we were bound to see homage covers emerge, and Witchblade gave us a great one! Artist Marc Silvestri illustrated a fantastic homage to the epic cover as a retailer incentive for fans TWICE. He originally did this cover for Witchblade #170 back in 2013. This book is hot-trending, and it hasn’t even been released yet! We tracked seven copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 18%, with a high sale of $60 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $51.
12 Venom War #1 – Clayton Crain – Venom Horse
Venom: The Last Dance’s trailer drop caused a number of Knull books to skyrocket to the top ten last week. Most of those books have fallen off the list this week, but a book that’s been steadily trending since the first trailer is Venom Horse! This was one of the more unique scenes of the trailer, and Venom Horse soon made his debut in the comic book world. Venom Horse’s first appearance is a fun book to collect and is still easy enough to track down. We tracked ten copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 14%, with a high sale of $80 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $10.
13 The Graveyard Club #1 – Jenny Frison (1:20)
A coming-of-age horror story by the one and only R.L. Stine? This book already had tons of hype behind it. Described as “Breakfast Club in a Graveyard,” reviews of this recently reviewed book have been overwhelmingly positive. Take a great book and add in an all-star cover artist like Jenny Frison, and you get a highly desirable collectible. To top it off, it’s a retailer incentive, increasing its exclusivity and making it harder to find. We tracked nine copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 22%, with a high sale of $55 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $44.
14 Marvel & Disney: What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 – Skottie Young – 2nd Print – Virgin (1:25)
There are artists with enough star power to warrant fans collecting a book solely for the cover. This book was released in July and is a spoof of the Old Man Logan storyline. It sold quickly, but the retailer incentives didn’t take off in terms of price. Along came last week’s second printing, with a Skottie Young retailer incentive cover, which was one of the trade dress covers in the first printing. As a virgin 1:25 retailer incentive, it has taken off on the aftermarket. We tracked seven copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 28%, with a high sale of $76 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $57.
15 Mark Spears Monsters #1 – Mark Spears – Last Slayer (1:25)
What a surprise hit from Keenspot Entertainment! This was an unexpected book to land on our list this week. The Kickstarter was a massive success and brought this book to life. Cover A (featuring the Bride of Frankenstein) has been trending very positively. While not as popular, this ratio cover is also a hot pick-up for fans of this project. You really can’t go wrong with an homage to McFarlane’s SPIDER-MAN #1 cover! We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 9%, with a high sale of $26 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $23.
16 Sonic The Hedgehog #73 – Nathalie Fourdraine – Cover RI (1:10)
Sonic the Hedgehog has been hitting the mark with their retailer incentive covers. Last month, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #72’s retailer incentive was a top ten seller. This month, there are so many speculation books to compete with that the retailer incentive dropped down to the runners-up… Which is still a significant feat for a book that is not a key or related to any media news! Congrats to Nathalie Fourdraine for another stellar cover! We tracked 29 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 4%, with a high sale of $20 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $15.
17 G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero #310 – Brad Walker & Francesco Segala (1:10)
G.I. JOE just celebrated its 300th issue, and it’s only getting better! This last issue’s retailer incentive was top-tier artwork. Fans of Snake Eyes were quick to jump on this cover, and it took off on the aftermarket. It makes a great piece to add to any G.I. JOE collection! We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 79%, with a high sale of $20 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $10.
18 The New Mutants Vol.1 #98 – Rob Liefeld – Regular
Deadpool and Wolverine has opened the door for Deadpool to officially enter the MCU in a future crossover movie (in theory, anyway). And while this movie was more of a send-off for previous FOX properties, we’re hoping to see Deadpool eventually interact with characters more familiar to the MCU. It’s just the beginning for “Marvel Jesus,” and fans are still taking to the aftermarket to pick up his first appearance. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 15%, with a high sale of $1,320 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $320.
19 The Moon Is Following Us #1 – Ryan Stegman (1:15)
This past week was the release of this book, and the sales are still strong! Ryan Stegman is a well-known artist, and his cover has garnered a lot of attention. Award-winning creator Daniel Warren Johnson is spearheading this new fantasy series. Between the excellent reviews praising the storyline and a well-known cover artist illustrating a phenomenal cover, this book is a hot grab! We tracked seven copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 3%, with a high sale of $25 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $22.
20 Spawn #1 – Todd McFarlane – Regular
Once more, SPAWN is back on our lists! There aren’t any new updates on the film, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is one of the most popular first appearance books on the market. In fact, when there isn’t much speculation, fans will usually come back to Spawn and collect his first issue. His first appearance has been a regular on our top ten and runners-up, even when there hasn’t been any news on the film! We tracked 23 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 23%, with a high sale of $128 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $28.
