RUNNERS UP
11 Falling In Love On The Path To Hell #4 – Subversive Girl (1:15)
Since it debuted, this series has been beloved by collectors. It’s received universal praise across the industry for the story and art but still isn’t heavily ordered, at least not enough to warrant a gaggle of variants. It has only received a 1:15 variant outside of issue one, so when they drop, collectors are quick to acquire the only variant available. We tracked seven copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 30%, with a high sale of $40 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $30.
12 The Sentry Vol.1 #1 – SDCC
We got our first look at Robert “Bob” Reynolds in the recent Thunderbolts* trailer, which sent collectors scrambling to acquire his first appearance. However, his premier issue wasn’t particularly prevalent, so options were limited. That leads collectors toward the variants for this issue, including this SDCC edition, which was available at the big con back in the day. We tracked six copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 24%, with a high sale of $270 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $100.
13 Creepshow Vol 3 #1 – Steve Beach (1:10)
Oh yes, October is upon us; bring on the horror-centric themes! This Steve Beach 1:10 nails the assignment, delivering a morbid cover for the premier issue of the third volume of this horror anthology series. The genre has been resurgent in recent years, and more covers like this will see a rise shortly. We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 20%, with a high sale of $15 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $12.
14 Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars Vol.1 #8 – Direct
This is it, the origin of the black suit that would later become Venom. It’s one of the most popular “must haves” for numerous Spider-Man die-hards. It’s a modern-day grail that trades hands routinely and has a ton of potential depending on Marvel’s plans—mainstay book extraordinaire. We tracked 28 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 19%, with a high sale of $510 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current VF raw of $124.
15 The X-Men Vol.1 #94
After years of falling behind the likes of the Avengers or Spider-Man, the X-Men are back in a big way. Deadpool and Wolverine, X-Men ’97, and some excellent X-Men runs have fans’ interest turned up. It typically leads them down a rabbit hole to this book, which has a TON going on for it. It’s the first appearance of the new lineup in the title, the second appearance of Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Thunderbird; it’s the third appearance of Wolverine, the beginning of Chris Claremont’s epic run on the title, and the first new story in years. It’s a monumental book, but one that fetches a high price. We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 7%, with a high sale of $1,620 for a CGC 9.2 copy and a current VG raw of $348.
16 Aliens Vs. Avengers #1 – Mark Brooks
Since Marvel acquired the rights to the Alien IP, we’ve seen them matched up with various characters within the MU. Now, it’s the Avenger’s turn! This series capitalizes on the recent run of comic mainstays VS. Godzilla, Predator, and Aliens. It’s a booming portion of the industry, and the aftermarket has been hot for the newest addition! We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 7%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $20.
17 Venom #3 – Ryan Stegman – Regular
After Venom and the Symbiotes dominated the list for a few weeks, this is the only remaining book on our list. But it may be up there with the biggest. It’s the first appearance of Knull, a relative unknown amongst the populace outside of the community, until they caught a glimpse of him in the recent Venom trailer. That sent folks down a rabbit hole that is still going deeper as people want to secure his first appearance before the movie drops. We tracked 30 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 1%, with a high sale of $221 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $129.
18 Wolverine: Revenge – Red Band #2 – Juan Ferreyra – Tales From The Crypt #41 Homage (1:25)
The red band version for issue #1 featured a homage and was on fire, too. Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and fans have consistently been vocal about wanting a less censored version of that. Cue this book, and the horror cover homage is just a sweet addition collectors were willing to pay for. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 6%, with a high sale of $60 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $36.
19 The Moon Is Following Us #1 – Ryan Stegman (1:15)
The Moon is Following Us is seeing positive reviews. Demand for this 1:15 have sent collectors searching for a copy in the aftermarket. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 13%, with a high sale of $22 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $17. It’ll be interesting to see how this title progresses.
20 Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #1 – Jim Lee – B&W Virgin (1:100)
Batman: The Long Halloween is considered one of the best stories for Batman. When the story returns for the third and final time, collectors are prepared to secure it. Of course, with the list of ratios released and this book sitting as the highest ratio available, some felt they had to have it, especially with Jim Lee attached in a killer black-and-white style. It works, and luckily, it isn’t trading for much above the ratio. We tracked seven copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 20%, with a high sale of $120 for an NM copy and a current NM raw of $115.
