RUNNERS UP
11 Venom War #4 – John Giang (1:25)
Anti-Venom has been around for a hot minute, but it’s taken until the Venom War event for him to receive some additional love. But, with this 1:25 variant from John Giang, how could you not take a second look? Flash Thompson is holding the Anti-Venom reins for now, and his experience as Agent Venom has infected the design of Anti-Venom for the better. For a “non-key” book, this variant has been moving copies! We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 53%, with a high sale of $140 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $30.
12 Mark Spears Monsters #1 – Mark Spears – 2nd Print – Halloween Movie Poster Homage (1:20)
These covers featuring Monsters of yesteryear have been making waves on the aftermarket. This is just another example, albeit without a classic monster, as this second print homages one of the best movie posters of all time with the original Halloween. Released around Halloween, the team knew what they were doing and played up the holiday with a 1:20 2nd print variant. Fans took notice, and are willing to drop serious dollars to add it to the PC. We tracked seven copies sold, with a 7-day growth trend of 3%, a high sale of $125 for an NM+ copy, and a current NM raw price of $77.
13 Absolute Superman #1 – Jim Lee – B&W (1:100)
Absolute Superman came out swinging, and what better way to get some attention on the title than a Jim Lee variant? This book received the same treatment as Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman, and each variant Lee has worked on has popped up on this list. Why? Because the man is an icon and has delivered an iconic cover for each character mentioned above. When his name is attached, fans come out of the woodwork to get a piece of his work. Building up to release day, pre-orders for this book were all over the place! We tracked nine copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 1%, with a high sale of $280 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $155.
14 Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #0 – Tim Sale – Batman Day Edition
This book has calmed down significantly since the mad scramble occurred to acquire it when it was first released. But, it serves the purpose of catching up with both new and old fans looking to jump into the continuation of one of Batman’s definitive stories. The excitement for this limited series is palpable, and it started right here! We tracked 37 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 49%, with a high sale of $72 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $19
15 The Amazing Spider-Man #654
We’ve mentioned that Agent Venom/Anti-Venom is back in a big way, but Anti-Venom has been underutilized for so long that many fans didn’t realize he even existed. Well, they got their wake-up call and immediately pivoted to the aftermarket, searching for copies of his first appearance in this book. But that’s proved slightly difficult, as this book isn’t necessarily prevalent and is buried in numerous collections aching to see that aftermarket glow. Some collectors obliged. We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 53%, with a high sale of $55 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current NM raw price of $40.
16 Absolute Batman #1 – Nick Dragotta – 2nd Print – Inks (1:25)
Absolute Batman has been absolutely everywhere. Naturally, those who missed out on the first print queued up for the second but got a treat with this one. Depicting Absolute Batman with his now iconic chest axe in tow was a thing of brilliance, and the black and white adds to the atmosphere. We’ve been seeing a rise in 2nd print ratio variants, and the aftermarket has proven that, in this instance, it was warranted. We tracked 12 copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 7%, with a high sale of $100 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $81.
17 Spawn #1 – Todd McFarlane – Regular
Spawn is always around the corner, lurking, waiting for his chance to pounce on this list. We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Spawn is the aftermarket G.O.A.T. Routinely, he leads the pack year after year, but for good reason. The IP is still alive and well, the creator is still engaged and producing awesome work, his first appearance is cheap and readily accessible, and more. Get used to it; Spawn isn’t going anywhere and has been on a pretty strict upward trajectory. We tracked 28 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 13%, with a high sale of $160 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $24.
18 Venom #4
This book has grown in popularity over the years as it details the origin of Knull and the now-famous Knowhere, the head of a Celestial whom the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy inhabited in the MCU. But, with the release of Venom: The Last Dance, fans are taking a second look at all things Knull. Most figured the Knull love would dissipate once the movie was released, and it has to a degree, but the film is still sitting at #1 at the box office despite less-than-stellar reviews. New and old fans are still making it to the theaters, and they have some questions that can hopefully be answered by this book. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 9%, with a high sale of $66 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $16.
19 The New Mutants Vol.1 #98 – Rob Liefeld – Regular
If you missed it in theaters, Deadpool and Wolverine is finally making it to Disney+, where a whole new subset of people are preparing to watch it. Deadpool is still everywhere, and the marketing for the film is still going strong with the streaming push. But, come on, it’s Deadpool, one of the most popular characters since he debuted on the big screen. This book marks his first appearance and is typically an aftermarket key book that fans save up for. It’s still going strong on the aftermarket despite being on this list nearly every week in some capacity for years now. We tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 3%, with a high sale of $1,004 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $352.
20 Hulk #1 – Ed McGuinness – Regular
We finally got to see Harrison Ford in all his Red Hulk glory with the most recent Captain America: Brave New World trailer, and so far, fans have been excited about it. Of course, what better way to show their excitement than to secure the first appearance of Red Hulk in comics? This book saw an explosion of interest after the first teaser. With the trailer dropping later in the week last week, we haven’t seen a recurrence of fan interest yet, but as the trailer reaches more of the populace, an increase in movement for this book is likely. We tracked nine copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 9%, with a high sale of $250 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $71.
