Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, all with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best chance of heating up. Here are our picks of the week:
The obvious one you still will make money off
Silk #1– Yes yes, there will be a big print run, yes many variants, but yes, it will sell out, and yes, it will go up in money. Don’t pass on the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a book that will go up in value.
The Small Press Gem:
Plunder #1– Just love this mix of Pirates and Monsters, Imagine Captain Phillips meets The Thing.
After facing off with an illegal Chinese vessel, a gang of Somali pirates tries to board what they think is a research vessel, only to find themselves in the midst of a massacre. As their worst nightmares become reality, the 14-year-old boy who went from translator to reluctant pirate not only becomes the key to survival, but must decide for himself how far he is willing to go in the name of self-preservation.
The Oddball one
Sparks Nevada Marshal on Mars– Oddball book based off characters from the webcast NERDIST.
Shine your astro spurs and don your robot fists! Justice rides a rocket steed across the crimson plains of the fourth planet, where one man brings fear to robots and aliens…and hope to humans who make this frontier planet their home. He is…SPARKS NEVADA: MARSHAL ON MARS!
Enough of this foolishness, on with the pick of the week:
The Pick of the Week:
Lady Mechanika 4– Weird huh, not seeing a number one in this slot? Lady Mechanika is an uber popular steam punk book that is finally returning to the shelves, self-published this time, after a long break. The early books sell for a big premium and finding them is next to impossible. Grab them if you see them, and they are good sellers. This one will probably have a small print run, and might not be ordered by all shops as it will sit in the back of the Previews as Joe Benetiz is doing these himself and not under the banner of the former publisher Aspen. There is a 1 in 10 variant worth picking up as the variants are all out pricing the regular covers as well as an Advance Reader Copy that came out at NYCC. The book can be ordered on the site for $15 and sells on eBay for higher.
That’s it for us folks, let us know what you are spec-ing on.
Alot of people still sleeping on Amazing Spiderman # 1 (1st App. Cindy Moon)…I think a very solid pick still very affordable…..
#4, not #1. 😉
Agreed # 4 ,1st Silk..more desired,but 1st Cindy Moon has great potential as well..
I think 4 is the first appearance of silk, but Cindy Moon appears in issue 1
Yeah, I don’t recall this. I’m actually verifying now as I don’t recall Cindy being in issue #1. If she was, probably more of a cameo.
Not many people I know consider ASM 1 her first appearance. Flashback cameo at best with no name and no face. That and the fact there are like a million of them will keep it from being a winner. ASM 4 will be the book for Silk/Cindy Moon.
Yeah, just found it. Love that Marvel Unlimited. So, cameo in the flash back.. just quickly shows he’s not the only one who got bitten by the spider. 🙂
Speccing on ASM #1 is like speccing on walking dead #100…
too true
In all it’s glory…
Origin issue…kind of
I’d throw this one just like Winter Soldier.. he had cameo in Captain America #1, cause you see parts of his body.. but everyone gobbles up #6 as real 1st Full Appearance, so it’s the money maker.
ASM #1 will be collected because it’s a #1 I think, not because Cindy Moon is in it. But yeah, your right Donato, first cameo appearance. 🙂
It was so brief I totally forgot about it when I read it. 🙂
Its the same thing with hawkeye vs deadpool #0 spider gwen does a cameo appearance but noone seems to care about it as much as EOSV #2. Wich I have more H vs D #0 then EOSV #2 lol
anyone know where I can buy amz spider #4, im looking for multiple copies
You and everyone else.. 😉
FYI – Larry mentioned Batman superman #19 Has a New joker like Villain. (I miss larry dropping into CHU)
Also I’m gabbing Ei8ht #1 – Dark Horse is starting to put out great creator owned comics like “lady killer” and I think this one might hit also.
I miss him too
