Agent Poyo's picks of the week for 2/18/15

This week is a given for the speculated comic. Next week will be even bigger but for now, let’s take it one week at a time.

The spec pick of the week:
Silk #1 – Marvel. Not just the regular cover, the 1 in 25 Lee Variant is the one to get. Why? Because it’s already selling for $50 and after dealers find out how many they’re getting, sell’em and then the flippers sell’em, people start stashing them into their collections, the amount available are going to start drying up and this can only go up if the popularity of Silk gains more readers and collectors.
If you can get this at cover or at a reasonable price, this is one you can flip easily. It also has potential for long term value if Silk continues to be a major popular character.
The other potential pick of the week:
Thrilling Adventure Hour Presents Sparks Nevada Marshal On Mars #1 Cover A J Bone – Image – Based on a popular podcast, I see non-collectors seeking this one out and it’s likely an under ordered comic so a potential quick flip since there might be a demand for the fan base. I didn’t follow the podcast but the description just makes this comic sound like fun.”Justice rides a rocket steed across the crimson plains of the fourth planet, where one man brings fear to robots and aliens… and hope to humans who make this frontier planet their home.” I mean, who wouldn’t want to read a comic that has a rocket steed, with other robots and aliens?
The already out and going up in value pick of the week:
Amazing Spider-Man #4 – First Cindy Moon aka Silk appearance. Yes, it was already a $10 comic for the regular cover. The Ramos 1:10 variant was an easy $20-$30 raw, expect these to climb more than their current level of $50-60. If Silk gets a strong fan base, those newcomers will be seeking out her first appearance. The 1:10 variant is just a sweet cover as well, the clear winner in my opinion.

  1. Question: how many copies do u recomend to buy of silk #1 for both flipping and collecting? How good do u think I will make money on these copies with the high print run and variants?

    1. Honestly, hard to tell before it’s released. The regular cover will be plentiful at first. I think it holds more long term value. The quick easy flip is if you can get the Lee Variant at a decent price. I noticed some dealers who likely would list the 1:25 variants in the $20 range even bumped theirs up to $50 or so.
Some people love the Scottie Young variants but I can’t name one of these that fetches premium prices.
Personally, I’m probably gonna grab about 4-5 of the regular covers myself. I’m hoping to score the variants though. Here in Austin, 1 shop has confirmed with me they only got one of the 1:25 variant and it went to long time subscriber who also was the first to put Silk on their weekly pull list. Lucky dog got it at cover price too. Only shop that sells variants at cover and no premium.
Another shop listed they were getting them, I put in my reserve but no confirmation if I got one or not, but they’re listing theirs at $19.99. Still beats paying $49.99 or more.
My usual shop has not confirmed with me if they got any. The first shop is way bigger than his shop and if they only got one copy out of the amount they likely bought, there’s a good chance he didn’t get any.
I don’t get Marvel at times, sure they say it’s a 1:25 variant but that doesn’t always mean if you order say, 100 copies you get 4 of them, at least to one shop I’m good friends with.

      1. I managed to get one copy pulled for me at my LCS (the only copy they received!). They’re selling it at $14.99. I’m going to get to another store right at open and see if I can score more. That one could be trickier…

  2. Thanks for the good tip. I called around to see if I can find the 1:25 but so far they say they cannot discuss and need to check back tomorrow. So I will check back then to see what’s up.

  3. I got in early early with a few shops and got 4 coming tomorrow. Also went a little heavy on the first print regular. I am hoping I can at least double up over the next month.

    1. I think these are worthy but if Silk creates a fan base, they’ll want the original cover and especially the Ramos 1:10 variant since she’s on them, not the Campbell variant with Black Cat on it.

    1. If you got a decent price, like $20 (which most retailers sell their 1:25 variants for), I say sell now, especially if you got multiple copies. Sell one, keep the other if you have two.
Honestly though, if she stays hot and popular, this is the book to own I think besides her first appearance in ASM #4 (ASM#1 if you want the first Cindy Moon Cameo). It could pay off down the road if held for some time.
