Fantastic Four: First Steps is a generator of discussion surrounding the MCU. With it, fans are already looking toward the next Herald of Galactus. 12 Fantastic Four Vol.1 #122
We got a peek at the dynamic in Fantastic Four: First Steps, but not the whole show. Often, the Silver Surfer and Galactus do not get along. They are at odds frequently, and this book is just another example. Featuring classic art with the two duking it out, it’s not surprising collectors are picking up a few copies! We tracked seven copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 170% with a high sale of $20 for an FN copy and a current raw NM FMV of $19.
13 Fantastic Four Vol.1 #72
More fans are walking out of theatres and thinking, “I want to know more about this Silver Surfer character.” They mosey on over to the internet and discover the treasure trove of stories and covers featuring the character. This is yet another classic cover from Jack Kirby making the rounds, and collectors are picking up copies where it makes sense. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 97% with a high sale of $169 for a VF copy and a current raw NM FMV of $54.
14 Fantastic Four Vol.1 #84
It’s no Silver Surfer cover, but it does feature an iconic spread from Jack Kirby, and a little Dr. Doom for good measure! So much emphasis has been put on the style of Fantastic Four: First Steps, and how important it was to the characters and the audience. Jack Kirby was the guy who delivered that iconic style, and now that fans got a taste in theatres, many are revisiting some classic Kirby covers on the aftermarket. We tracked six copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 76% with a high sale of $61 for an FN copy and a current raw NM FMV of $46.
15 Fantastic Four Vol.1 #59
More Jack Kirby greatness! No flashy first appearances, no gimmicks. Just classic work, from a classic artist, delivering classic characters in the Fantastic Four, BUT, with the addition of Black Bolt. Oh, and Dr. Doom steals the Silver Surfer’s powers in this one, which, based on the events that played out in Fantastic Four: First Steps, could be a direction the MCU heads, at least, the collector market thinks it’s worth taking a flyer on! We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 55% with a high sale of $34 for a VG copy and a current raw NM FMV of $17.
16 Fantastic Four Vol.1 #243 – Newsstand
While we got a major battle in Fantastic Four: First Steps, it didn’t include some of the other big MCU names quite like this cover. But Galactus is too epic to be a one-and-done character. Thus, collectors are banking on seeing him in the future. And with Avengers: Doomsday shaping up to be the biggest Avengers yet, collectors are banking on seeing this cover play out on the big screen. We tracked eight copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 46% with a high sale of $100 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $26.
17 Venom: Lethal Protector #1 – Regular
Venom is making some headlines for a few reasons, and none of them are current. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has started filming, and there is always hope we may see Venom appear. But most fans are looking toward the future title, Battleworld, coming out later this year. It’s an homage to the classic Secret Wars event, but issue #3 features a delightful redesign of Venom, featuring Spidey’s iconic red and blue. This book has somewhat gone the way of our next entry and has become an aftermarket staple as collectors enter and exit the market. We tracked 26 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 33% with a high sale of $106 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $20.
18 Spawn #1 – Todd McFarlane – Direct
Aftermarket King, he is. This book changes hands as much as the dollar bill at this point. We tracked 34 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 29% with a high sale of $101 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $27.
19 The Amazing Spider-Man Vol.1 #299 – Todd McFarlane – Regular
Recently, a discussion arose, with input from McFarlane himself, regarding the true first appearance of Venom. Many look at issue #300 as it is, but this book has waded into the discussion to stake a claim. With the info about Spider-Man: Brand New Day dropping (including a costume reveal), many fans are keyed up for the opportunity for Venom to enter the MCU proper down the line, and are aiming to collect his key books in the meantime. We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 24% with a high sale of $360 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $80.
20 Uncanny X-Men #266 – Direct
Gambit is beloved by the fanbase. He got some serious screen time in X-Men ‘97, Deadpool, and Wolverine, and fans still want more. The rumor mill is turning regarding his future, especially with the introduction of the X-Men to the MCU. As the majority consider this book to be his first full appearance, it’s the book collectors are securing before he makes his MCU debut proper. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 20% with a high sale of $450 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $127.
