RUNNERS UP
11 Amazing Spider-Man #252 – Ron Frenz – Regular
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the community’s mind, especially what they’re hoping to see after all the behind-the-scenes footage and pics. First and foremost, fans are eager beavers for the black suit Spider-Man to hit the big screen. As the community considers this to be the first appearance of that iconic black suit, numerous collectors are hopping in now with the assumption that we will get said black suit by hook or by crook at some point in the MCU. We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 11% with a high sale of $1,230 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $127.
12 The New Mutants #98 – Rob Liefeld – Regular
Of course, you’ve likely seen this book a ton over the last few years, brought on by the absolute deluge of Deadpool content the community has received. But, the most recent news is surrounding the future of the character, and IF he will appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. Confirmation has been trickling out for the last few days that he will, but rumors of a twist persist. The rumors were even more inflamed after Ryan Reynolds posted on his Instagram the ‘Anarchy A’ from Deadpool and Wolverine over the ‘Avengers A’. Still, this book marks the first appearance of Deadpool, and even if he doesn’t appear on the big screen ever again, this book is here to stay, just like Deadpool. We tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 11% with a high sale of $999 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $292
13 Fantastic Four #49 – Jack Kirby – Regular
This book has a ton going for it, and with the recent release of Fantastic Four: First Steps it’s easy to see why collectors are eager to acquire a copy. It features the first full appearance of Galactus, the second appearance of the Silver Surfer, and is the first cover appearance for the two. It also sports iconic work from the man, Jack Kirby, and all around is a white whale for many collectors, a few of whom are getting the chance to secure a copy. We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 12% with a high sale of $845 for a CGC 6.5 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $381.
14 The Amazing Spider-Man Annual Vol.1 #21
Take us back to a time when Peter and MJ were together and all was right in the world. At least, that’s what it feels like the market is doing! In recent books, MJ has been dabbling between Paul and Peter, which has driven the fandom into a tizzy. However, she dumped Paul, only to have Peter slam a door in her face. Wow. Just, wow. The community can always journey to the good ole days with this book. We tracked eight copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 6% with a high sale of $100 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $23.
15 Spawn #1 – Todd McFarlane – Direct
Spawn is the aftermarket king, and his first issue routinely lands on this list regardless of what is happening in the wider world. Usually, there is little news, but last week, a few things popped up that got Spawn fans going. Frank Miller is set to reunite with McFarlane after 30 years to work on some variant covers for the title, AND, the timeless classic, Spawn, is receiving the 4k treatment with a pre-orderable bundle featuring a ton of goodies. We tracked 22 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 10% with a high sale of $139 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $32.
16 The Amazing Spider-Man #10 – Olivier Coipel – Regular
The book marks the first appearance of Spider-Punk, who immediately became a bit of a sideshow commodity. He was cool, but his appearance in Across the Spider-Verse helped usher him into household name status. However, he’s getting the big-time treatment, as an animated movie is reportedly in the works through Sony. That kicked collectors into high gear as they scoured the aftermarket for his first appearance! We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 8% with a high sale of $180 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $44.
17 Star Wars #1 – Howard Chaykin – Newsstand
This book started it all for generations of collectors, introducing a collective of characters who translated to the big screen in a big way. We’re fresh off the most recent Star Wars outing, Andor, and the fandom is invigorated and waiting for more. They got the best news recently, as it was announced that the director for the next Star Wars trilogy, Simon Kinberg, loved Andor and wants to push this trilogy toward that quality. Music to fans’ ears, but not their wallets, as some hit up the aftermarket to secure this key book. We tracked 25 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 19% with a high sale of $2499 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $152.
18 Fantastic Four Vol.1 #47
When the major keys get too pricey, look out for books leading up and following. Take this book, the first mention of Galactus in a teaser. It is also the 2nd appearance of Black Bolt and the first of Maximus, his brother. For a classic, super colorful Fantastic Four book, the price is negligible, but receiving a new spotlight is likely due to its proximity to Galactus and the Inhumans. We tracked eight copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 8% with a high sale of $30 for a Raw VG copy and a current raw NM FMV of $23.
19 Sandman #1
We’re not far off from the conclusion of Season Two of Sandman. Season one brought in a ton of collectors, excitement was high, the characters were enjoyed, and Sandman comics did quite well on the aftermarket. Then, allegations flew, creators fell, and series were shelved. The Sandman show is no more, for now at least, and collectors have found themselves with the opportunity to acquire the first appearance of Dream in this book for a low price. Just four years ago, a CGC 9.8 copy traded at $1,800. Now, it commands less than a ¼ of the price. For one of the most influential comics in history, it’s astounding to see, but there are still collectors out there elated that they can acquire a copy! We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 5% with a high sale of $338 for a CBCS 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $74.
20 I Was A Fashion School Serial Killer #5 – Vinne (1:10)
This was a pretty under-the-radar title that developed some legs. However, like with other limited series, the final issue dropped, and suddenly, collectors are taking notice. Especially for this 1:10 variant from Vinne, the only ratio variant, and likely limited due to the nature of being under the radar. Most LCS likely didn’t order enough to hit ratio, making this a quiet aftermarket variant that gets collectors excited. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 7% with a high sale of $20 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $17.
