RUNNERS UP
11 Mark Spears Monsters: The Monster & The Wolf #1 – Mark Spears – Blind Bag Cover A48 – Foil
The Blind Bag craze hit this title like a typhoon. Heck, take a look at our lists last week! But as time continues to pass, collectors continue to consolidate. Collectors exchange with each other covers they’re after should one have an extra, and we’re seeing that play out on the open market. Not everyone was an initial winner, and some were looking to fix that last week! We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 28% with a high sale of $63 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $52.
12 Amazing Spider-Man: Torn #1 – Javier Garron – Muppets
What a way to celebrate an anniversary! The Muppets have been around for 70 years, and we got a bunch of Muppet centric variant covers as a result! Miss Piggy, saving Kermit, in a wonderful homage to Amazing Fantasy #15 front and center, but there were a lot of collectors also interested in the issue within. This book marks the first appearance of Evangeline, AND follows Peter in college. The fanbase desperately wants more of that, and this book was a nice start. We tracked 8 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 65% with a high sale of $20 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $19.
13 Absolute Batman #1 – Nick Dragotta – Regular
This book is the one that really hooked audiences and dragged them into the Absolute Universe. Hence, why we continue to see it make waves on the aftermarket. It’s one of the few modern keys that collectors have the “gotta have it” itch with, partially because it shifted the game, and partly because it followed through with great content. Fans are engaged, and they want the beginning of this series in their PC, stat! We tracked 22 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 23% with a high sale of $167 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $76.
14 Hello Halloween #1 – Mattia De Iulis (1:10)
What a way to get into the spooky season! Boom! Studios know what’s up, delivering a devilishly delightful 1:10 variant from Mattia de Iulis, front and center of a horror anthology book! Freaky scarecrows are the name of the game this time of year, and de Iulis understood the assignment. We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 51% with a high sale of $22 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $15.
15 Something Is Killing The Children #1 – Jenny Frison – Virgin Unlocked Retailer
Something is Killing the Children is seeing renewed hype thanks to the Film/TV adaptation finally moving along (a bit). Once again, the various variants are hitting the online marketplace to capitalize, and this variant from Jenny Frison is seeing some serious action. Part of it is her ongoing work on SiKTC, as well as her work in general, and part of that is the rarity of this book. What makes SiKTC such an aftermarket darling is that no one expected it to be a hit. It took most of the community by surprise, so when variants like this one hit the market, they fetch a high price. This book is tough to find, as it’s an unlocked retailer variant, or one that a retailer can order once they commit to buying a certain number of copies. Well, not many LCS were chomping at the bit, leading to a very limited market today and high prices. We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 11% with a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $100.
16 The Incredible Hulk #30 – Kyle Hotz (1:25)
Despite debuting 60 years ago, they’re still delivering new and noteworthy moments within the pages of Hulk comics. Take this 1:25 variant from Kyle Hotz, featuring a stellar Abomination front and center. But within features the first full appearance of the Mother of Horrors, and the origin and first appearance of Infernal Hulk, a promised, all-new, ultra badass Hulk. Time will tell, but collectors didn’t want to wait on this one! We tracked 7 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 11% with a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $31.
17 Tim Drake Robin #3 – Dan Mora
Dan Mora has seen a ton of love lately, especially in Batman-centric titles, thanks to his stellar covers and art. But that’s nothing new, as Mora was killing it on Batman titles for some time. This book is a prime example, and one that has seen an explosion in interest lately, right alongside the explosion in Mora’s work. It’s a rare variant that has floated under the radar, as this title was not highly coveted and still isn’t. But what this variant does beautifully is pay homage to Batman #368, the issue where Dick Grayson officially passes the title of Robin to Jason Todd. Now, the third Robin, Tim Drake, gets his own title, but instead of Batman overlooking Robin taking a leap of faith, it’s old Jason Todd as Red Hood! Stellar! We tracked 7 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 0% with a high sale of $40 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $40.
18 Spawn #1 – Todd McFarlane – Direct
Spawn has developed quite an expanded universe, and it’s still growing! Late last year, Todd McFarlane announced several new Spawn titles to hold fans over. He did it again this year at NYCC, and dropped some killer variants and a coveted action figure to boot. Spawn sentiment is high, and it’s not surprising to see him on this list, considering this book is the aftermarket king! We tracked 33 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 6% with a high sale of $139 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $23.
19 Hello Halloween #1 – Jenny Frison – BOOM 20th Anniversary Virgin (1:20)
Spooky season is here, people! Boom! Studios delivered a horror anthology to satisfy the community, and delivered some awesome variants while they were at it! That includes this 1:20 variant from Jenny Frison, one of the hottest names in the game. If she drops a variant, collectors are there to scoop it up ASAP. We tracked 8 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 28% with a high sale of $30 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $25.
20 West Coast Avengers #35
If you recall, this book saw a ton of heat when it was first announced that RDJ would be playing Doctor Doom in an upcoming Avengers film. It hasn’t done a ton since then, but collectors haven’t forgotten. With “One World Under Doom” nearing completion, and Marvel laying the groundwork for the next run in “Dungeons of Doom”, collectors have their work cut out for them. Mostly, because no one knows exactly how the RDJ as Doom will play out, and what connotations that holds for the future. Still, this is a Doom-centric cover key that has collectors interested, and they’re picking up this issue and resetting the ground floor at a steady clip. We tracked 7 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 24% with a high sale of $30 for a Raw NM copy and a current raw NM FMV of $16.
