Spawn has historically dominated this category, holding the top two spots for as long as these annual wrap-ups have existed, often trading the number one position with staples like Ultimate Fallout #4 (absent from this year’s list entirely). This year marked a notable shift, as the overwhelming success of Mark Spears Monsters sealed blind bags pushed Spawn down the list. Because CovrPrice does not track bulk sales, the actual volume behind that blind bag success is likely far greater than what is reflected here. Even Absolute Batman attempted to keep pace, securing a strong third place while also landing multiple entries overall. Reliable aftermarket mainstays like The Amazing Spider-Man #300, Venom Lethal Protector #1, and Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8 once again proved their staying power. Content-driven momentum helped The Omega Men #3 deliver Lobo’s strongest year yet, while Red Hood #1 rounded out the list as one of the year’s most talked-about and polarizing releases.
