Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/28/14

The past two weeks for new books have been awesome, not just for reading but for flipping. Walking Dead #127, Invincible #111, Itty Bitty Bunnies, Saga #19, all sold out and are all doing well above cover. For books under a month old, that is what I love to see. Here are this weeks picks of the week:
The one to find:
Brass Sun #1 – Put out by 2000 AD, this is a quirky steam punk story. The story is about a clock work universe, where the sun sits in the middle and planets orbit around on giant metal arms. The sun is worshiped as a god, but is dying. The planets are freezing up one by one. Anyway, 2000 AD does not release many books to the US audience. (Think of how Dredd Underbelly did)
The horror one:
Nightbreed #1 – After Hellraiser ended I, and many other Barker fans, have been missing their dose of sick goodness. Based off the movie, Nightbreed deals with a secret society of monsters. The book is written by Marc Andreyko and features a cover by Riley Rossmo.
The follow up issue:
Southern Bastards #2 – The first issue sold out of the new Jason Aaron (Scalped) and went above cover. Very interesting story so far.
The odd Marvel one:
Thanos Annual #1 – Jim Starlin and Ron lim doing Thanos again, sign me up.
The New Image #1:
Trees #1 – Yeah, I do a lot of Image books, with good reason. This one has even more good reason than usual. Trees #1 is written by comics legend Warren Ellis (Planetary). Jason Howard is doing the art on this sci-fi/horror book and it just looks fantastic.
COWL #1 – Another Image book. COWL stands for Chicago Organized Workers League. Basically, a superpowered union. There has been a lot of chatter on message boards about this one. A sure pick up.
That’s it for us. Let us know what you are spec-ing on this week.

  1. I nabbed a Brass Sun, looked interesting and the local shop only had a handful anyways, so I’m expecting a low print run for sure.
