Letter 44 by Charles Soule and Oni Press

There is a strong under current for Letter 44 from Oni Press which comes out in October. There has been a lot of message board chatter on the book since the SDCC preview came out. The price for that book has continued to stay high. There have been stories on other news sites about this book and how retailers are going to miss the boat on the demand for the book. Seems about right as Oni Press books seem to get over looked when retailers are going through the diamond catalog. Checking online through the major retailers, they are already sold out of their pre-orders. Most Oni books tend to have print runs around 3,000 copies. I think this could be the next silent break out star. I will run more as we get closer to the release date.

If you are not familiar with Charles Soule, he is an awesome creator and writer. He did ’27’ from Image Comics, is the current writer on ‘Swamp Thing’ and wrote my favorite original graphic novel of the year, ‘Strange Attractors.’ This book blew my mind and was worth the price of the book for not only the story and art, but the 6 page fold out in the middle of the hardcover. If you want to check it out, Amazon has Strange Attractors for $9.99 which is a great price for a 128 page hardcover. (lowest price was at $4.99 but those copies sold quickly.)

  1. I read about this title months ago and have been looking forward to it coming out. So when I saw it featured as a special discount on DCBS not to long ago for only 50 cents I jumped at the chance to pick up more than a few copies. Couldn’t wait to check it out so I also picked up the SDCC B&W edition and was impressed…can’t wait to see in full color.

  2. If you want to spec on this book the Comic Con black and white preview is still avail from oni-press.myshopify.com 10$ a pop but 10$ for shipping. Limit 4 per person. Maybe worth it. Just grabed 3 just in case this blows up. Maybe worth your spec interest…

  3. I have a copy of the B & W SDCC preview signed by Carles Soulle.
Got a load on pre order as well. It was 60p in the UK, so on 20 copies even if nothing comes of it, it’s a small gamble

  4. @Simon Talktoofast, nice snag! I’m all ears if you are willing to share the info on that specific 60p UK site!

Thanks for the Spek on this COMICFLIPPER!

Plenty of time to get those Pre-Orders out there as well!

  5. #1 is currently on sale for 65p at Forbidden Planet. That’s about $1.04 at the current exhange rate. This isn’t a sale, though, because if you zoom in on the cover for issue #1, you can see that the cover price is $1.00. Issue #2 goes up to a more normal cover price of $3.99. At FP, #2 is for sale at 2.65p, which is about $3.68.

I’m not saying this isn’t a good investment, as this comic may blow up. I’m just saying that the 65p isn’t a special sale or discount. That’s the actual cover price. I don’t know that it’s worth paying the UK shipping fees, when it’ll be only $1.00 an issue over in the USA as well.

  6. I have looked at this book numerous times but I will be honest and didnt really have this as a pick because it has a $1.00 cover price and rarely do $1.00 cheap comics ever sell out and go up in value. However with enough buzz of course a sell out is a possibility on any comic. So I look forward to this comic getting the recognition it deserves.
