Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 10/23/13

Another Wednesday, another week of shelves filled with comic goodness and speculation gold. Here are our picks of the week for 10/23/13 in no particular order.

1. Velvet #1 – Yes, I know, another Image #1. But this one reunites the Captain America team of ED BRUBAKER and STEVE EPTING. When the world’s best secret agent is killed, Velvet Templeton, the Personal Assistant to the Director of the Agency, is drawn off her desk and back into the field for the first time in nearly 20 years . . . and is immediately caught in a web of mystery, murder and hi-octane action.

2. Pretty Deadly #1 – Even with a bunch of covers, this one by Kelly Sue Deconnick features a fantastic story that is getting rave reviews. Death’s daughter rides the wind on a horse made of smoke and her face bears the skull marks of her father. Her tale of retribution is as beautifully lush as it is unflinchingly savage.
Don’t forget we are taking pre-orders for signed copies of #1 regular and Third Eye Variants. Email at apopcomics@gmail.com for details. Pre-orders need to be in by 10/24 for the signing on 10/26 to guarantee a copy (or more).

3. Samurai Jack #1 – IDW brings back the ultra cool Cartoon Network series. This has great cross-over potential. There is a Phantom Variant that features art the reminds of old Samurai movie posters.

4. Department of Monsterology #1 – Small press pick that looks really cool. ‘Investigating the Dark Forgotten Corners of our World. One Monster at a Time.’ From Renegade Arts Entertainment, this one will most likely have a small print run and in time for halloween. I am really looking forward to this one.

5. Zombie War #1 – IDW bringing the halloween love as well this week. Zombies are still hot and this could bring in the horror fans. Features a subscription cover by TMNT creator Kevin Eastman.

Well there you go folks, our picks. What are you most looking forward to this week?
