A Look Ahead to Wednesday 11/6/13

I know I keep repeating this, but I love Wednesdays. This Wednesday is a huge one with a lot of my favorite reads coming out, and some new ones to speculate on. Here is a preview of things to come for 11/6/13.

1. 68 Hallowed Ground One-shot – The other Image zombie book worth looking at. Follows along with the Night of the Living Dead original outbreak, almost an unofficial companion. Viet Nam Zombies. Talks of a movie have helped prop up the original issues.

2. Afterlife with Archie #2 – The hit Archie Comics Zombie story continues, this is not the Archie you remember as a kid.

3. Alex + Ada #1 – Jonathan Luna’s new sci-fi Image series. A must for fans of Ultra and Girls.

4. Department of Monstrology #2 – First issue was a sellout and a great read. Small print runs on this one.

5. East of West #7 – Jonathan Hickman has been killing it with this book. Sci-fi apocalyptic western.

6. Grindhouse Doors Open at Midnight #2 – A real departure from anything else on the shelves. True gritty horror in the vein of 60-80’s B-movie horror.

7. Half Past Dead #6 – IDW’s quirky series has been a great read. Imagine Captain America fighting along side a ninja, a drunken Irishman, a femme fatale, agianst Nazi’s and Dinosaurs.

8. Hinterkind #2 – First issue knocked it out of the park. Vertigo at it’s prime again.

9. Mocking Dead #3 – IDW B-grade zombie book that works.

10. Trillium #4 – Again, Vertigo at it’s former glory with this epic Jeff Lemire sci-fi story.

  1. What about that Longshot title… maybe a sleeper?

New #1 from Image is always one to look at – Protectors Inc.

Small independant – Ghost Cop, sure to have a small print run.

  2. Afterlife with Archie got moved to the 20th. Mighty Avengers #3 has an Eminem variant that is heating up, one per store variant.

    1. @shima, THANKS FOR THE HEAD’S-UP! I just secured the following for 14.95 GBP (approx $24) from one of my UK suppliers:

MIGHTY AVENGERS #3 (INFINITY) ONE-PER-STORE, 1:50 WIMBERLY VARIANT COVER – MARVEL COMICS FIRST PRINT

I’m still after the one-per-store Eminem 1:25, but being able to grab a Wimberly 1:50 for less than $25…I’M BUZZIN’ RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!

      Thanks man!

      L8tr,
      UKPONDSIDE
      …Peace!

  3. I don’t think Mocking Dead #3 is out this Wednesday. None of my local shops or even Midtown list it as available on the 6th.

  4. Comic Lord in the house…It’s been a while. Just thought I’d chime in and share that there’s speculation on “Extinction Parade” being propositioned for a tv show. There are lots of covers and plenty still left, despite sm print. Not sure which to get or what to get. Anyone have thoughts on this trending story? Sorry for the post hijack.

    1. Yeah I saw that and am at work and couldn’t write it up. Avatar books do not normally have huge print runs initially, but they are known for going back and doing auxiliary covers and enhances editions.

      1. Thanks. I just picked up a (Fine) copy of Incognito for a dollar. Not the best condition, but I’m sure it’ll be worth more than a dollar. Any idea which cover to focus on with Extinction Parade? Like you said, there are still new covers coming out for issue #1. This news makes me hopeful for Uber #1, which I actually enjoy reading.

        1. I had a hard time reading Extinction Parade, which is sad because I like Max Brooks work. No idea in which cover it is a pot shot, but look at how well the leather covers are doing. I almost sold my run of Incognito cheap last month to make room. See if it jumps and then decide in selling.

  5. SHAHRAZAD #1

    BIG DOG INK

    (W) Kim Hutchinson, Kari Castor (A) Mike Krome (CA) Mike Krome, J. Scott Campbell

A new heroine rises from the legends of the ancient world. Shahrazad was known for her amazing stories of 1001 Arabian Nights, but now it is time to tell her story! She lives a life unlike anything you could imagine. An existence that spans generations as well as genres. In this new ongoing series, Shahrazad stares into the storms on the horizon with determination, but the forces of nature, and of history, are not to be taken lightly!

NOBODY will see this one coming…
remember last weeks J. Scott Campbell cover
    😉
