Mark Millar's new comic 'MPH' gets optioned for movie

Looks like Mark Millar has another media deal. MPH, the yet to be released comic out 5/21/14 has already been optioned for a movie.

MPH is described as:

The all-new Millarworld Universe kicks into high gear with the launch of Millar and Fegredo’s fast and furious miniseries. When a group of hard-luck teens in Motor City stumble upon a street drug called MPH, they gain the power of super speed. Will they use it to save the world? Hell no! Not when there’s dolla, dolla…

Hollywood Reporter broke the story

MPH, the latest comic from creator Mark Millar, is also the latest to get Hollywood attention.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, whose recent credits include the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies as well as comic book adaptation Red, has optioned the screen rights to the comic, which Millar co-created with Duncan Fegredo (who was a storyboard artist on Darren Aronofsky’s Noah).
The move follows last week’s deal with Fox for Millar’s comic Superior.
The plan for MPH now is to get a writer on board before setting it up at a studio.
MPH centers on four 19-year olds who get their hands on a street drug that gives them the ability to move at light-speed for seven days. The first issue is due to come out on May 21 from Image Comics.

Thing to note, there are at least 7 different covers for MPH
Oops, thanks to Melthemoiveguy for pointing this out.

  1. millar is pretty much dead to me as a speculator. his stuff never really sells on the secondary.

    1. I kind of agree. At least his newer stuff. Jupiter’s Legacy was way over printed. Good story but only four issues after 1 year. Plus the last issue is always a jumbo sized over priced book. It burns me up to kick out extra money in a week to finish a storyline

      1. Yeah, I like Jupiter’s Legacy and even Starlight but I almost feel like boycotting the guys work at this point.. 🙁

  2. With the news of Aquaman being involved in the justice league movies, am a little overwhelmed in determining the key early silver age appearances since the golden age stuff is out of my reach, What are the key issues? 1st silver age, the showcase run? Thank for your help and response.

  3. This title could potentially be an overnight hit like Bunker was – similar type of situation. But yes the print run might be higher. I really am enjoying Starlight so far. Jupiters Legacy is the highest printed #1 of any Image comic of this century (not counting Walking Dead) so that is unfortunate that speculators and retailers both over ordered.

    1. Maybe since retailers are likely still trying to sell their copies of Jupiter Legacy #1’s.. I’ll keep buying Starlight if it’s consistent in it’s release but I’m not wasting anymore money on Jupiter’s Legacy, I’ll just wait and get the TPB and save a ton of money and actually read the story within a smaller time frame, not years.. 😉
