Amazing Spider-man #1 Variant break down

By Terry Hoknes of www.hoknescomics.com
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 (2014) has a print run of over 500,000 copies
So how rare are the variants?  Based on that number and if all retailers ordered equally that means the highest the print runs could be include:

1:300 variant only 1,666 copies printed
1:200 variant only 2,500 copies printed
1:75 variants only 6,666 copies printed
1:50 variants only 10,000 copies printed
For the number of Spider-man collectors out there its still feasible that demand will be higher than the actual print run of these variants.
These print runs are all double / twice as large as the variant print runs for Amazing Spider-man #700 (death of Peter) which had all shot up in value.

  1. I got the Opena and Martin covers. I’ll likely pick up a few others but I’m not spending anymore on ASM, I only got the Opena and Martin covers cause I like them best, not looking to flip for any profit this round.

  2. How the print run on Amazing Spider-Man Vol 3 #1 Cover B Midtown Exclusive J Scott Campbell Connecting Color Variant Cover (2 of 3)

      1. I was reading some reviews that Gamestop doesn’t treat these like collectibles either (more like periodicals media mail), most will be shipped and likely damaged cause they don’t package them securely. Getting one in NM+ will likely be the challenge.

      2. I think I’m going to wait until I see the condition before I list it. Like Anthony said, I’m not quite sure how the condition will be whenever it comes in. If it’s flawless I might slab it, if not I’ll sell it raw quickly. Plus, I don’t want to presale it and it show up in bad shape.

      3. I’m not sure if it’s all true but putting two and two together, I can see a retailer like Gamestop that usually only deals with video games not properly protecting comics they might sell and have to ship. Either way, if I was a gamer who had an account at Gamestop with reward points, I’d be all over it myself just to see what I get.

  3. It’s up for 150-800+. That is too rich for my blood. I was hunting for the variants when they were at about 24. Now I give up. I will wait 6 months when everyone is dumping their books. There is going to be between 600000-750000 books out there after all of the variants. Depending on print runs of course.

  4. Anthony, speaking about comics in bad shape, I finally got a “Final Plague” in NM 9.6 or better condition. It’s a #5 and I picked up from Midtown as forgot to pick up at my local shops and I was ordering a few other comics online. I was expecting a bunch of creases, but nope, first issue of this series I ever got without any larger noticeable spine creases. 🙂

    1. All mine were horrible. i even asked for a discount at my regular store as every copy of every issue they got in was in bad condition. I have never bought a book that was in bad condition new off the shelf. Just loved the story on this book.

      1. Yup, story kept me buying them. I did wish the art was a little less rough but it was a good story, apparently they continuing it come this fall with a new arc, I think sort of what the Strain has been doing..

  5. The Gamestop Variant any store could order through Diamond. You had to commit to 6000 copies. So some bigger comics stores may have ordered some.

    1. I really like the Neal Adams Expert Comics variant as well.. I might just budge and grab it as well.
