Comics picks of the week for delivery 4/30/14

This year is cruising by. April has come and gone and we are moving into convention season. Books have been heating up, but expect to see more books exploding in the next couple of months. Book including those coming out this week. Each week hundreds of new comics come out. We pick the ones we feel have the best chance of heating up on the secondary market. Here are our picks for 4/30/14:

The one that is the biggest comic of the year:
Amazing Spider-man #1– Kind of hard to pass up listing this one. Over a half of a million copies already pre-ordered. Forty Three variant and incentive covers. This book is just crazy big, 1990’s big.
The new Image book:
Southern Bastards #1– Jason Aaron, creator of Scalped, releases a new book this week. Already sold out and moving to a second print. Scalped was also just picked up for a TV show. I really like the prospects on this.
The “A Dc Book on the list?” one:
Flash Annual #3– There was a time where you couldn’t give away a New 52 Flash book. Then, the TV show got announced around the same time the prices on #1 started rising. Oh, the annual, first appearance of Wally West in the New 52.
The one seeing heat on the back issues:
Deadly Class #4 The book keeps selling out and going to 2nd and 3rd prints. Some movement on early issues on the first issue. Plus, it is a cool book. Image Firsts $1 issue also out this week, if you haven’t read it.
The small press pick of the week:
V-Wars #1 Based on the novels of the same name. Vampires are cooling off, but I do love horror. The regular cover is kind of hokey but the subscription cover is done by Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame. I like it.
The one for fun:
Dexter’s Laboratory #1 The fan favorite comic based off the 1990’s Cartoon Network Show. This was a great show
Also out this week worth looking at:
Sanitarium #1 Small press horror anthology mini-series
Black Science #6 Still a great book. Also a $1 Image firsts edition out this week.
That’s it for us this week. Let us know what you are speculating on.

  1. good picks and good summary !!
Well I am tackling Diamond harder than ever starting this week as I really try to promote my comic business online so I am going to start promoting lines of DC and Marvel too as opposed to just the small indie’s that i usually like to focus on

    1. Good call. As much as I love small press books, the big two are what drives most money. Sad but true, nit that they do not put out quality books, my heart is just not into them any more. I am an avid silver age collector of Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man, and Daredevil, characters I love, and just walked away.

  2. Do you think any of the image firsts this week will heat up? Some of them have in the past so I decided to take a chance on sex criminals, black science and manifest destiny.

      1. Manifest Destiny will pick up but I can’t see sex criminals picking up for a while cause its the 7th printing or so… I skipped cause I manged to pick up 3 copies of the first print.

  3. Looks like southern bastards is getting good reviews. What’s the word on dream police?

      1. That’s disappointing. Reviews aren’t bad at all. Looking forward to reading it tonight. How’s the art?

    1. Not sure if anyone is noticing but the Southern Bastards variants seem to be selling good. I was watching the variant auctions on eBay and it seems 2 of the 3 variants are now sold out on eBay, only seems like the Forbidden Planet variant is available on my current searches, one from ThirdEye with BIN and one listed as auction at $4.00 with 3 days left.

  4. Just read that Frank Miller’s Ronin is being adapted for TV on SyFy. Get em now while their cheap!

    1. Yeah, I think they been trying to make a movie from it for years, just never happened.. Perhaps SyFy will make it happen, you never know.
I’m hoping SyFy gets Letter 44 made and is actually good, it’s a great read that would make a great show or movie me thinks.
