Comics heating up: Action Comics #835 and Superman Adventures #5

Some times books get hot and I honestly do not know why. This seems to be the case with Superman Adventures #5 and Action Comics #835
Superman Adventures #5 is the first appearance of Livewire, which was followed up by a regular continuity appearance in Action Comics #835
So these are popping up in people’s weekly pick up photo’s across the internet, but still cannot pinpoint where the heat is coming from. I have been seeing the auction but do not know were the heat is from. Kind of have to wonder if this is legit or have people been “Booster Gold”-ed.

    1. Good to know. There had to be some reason for the price increase and people grabbing every copy the can find. Normally for things like this that are random I run to sell the books I have if I have copies. And then to buy additional a later.

      1. I was the one that initially posted info on Livewire in the new 52. I was in the presence of a few writers/creators at Wondercon discussing new villains set to appear in the new 52 and her name was dropped. Never thought that post would assist in this type of heat though.

  1. I have superman adventures 1 thru 7 or 8 i think, Doesn’t look like there’s too many of #5 on eBay right now so I guess its time to dig them out. Midtown and mycomicshop are both out of stock too.

  2. In the stock market there are many shady people who band together forming boiler room pump and dump operations. They target random tickets. I imagine the same goes on in collectables.

  3. I don’t see a boiler room pump and dump here. This character has been a cult fav for a while prob due to that costume! Here first appearance is tough to find. If she were to ever become a cosplay favorite Sup adv 5 would become a true modern key.

    1. So because it is an established character the book can not be targeted by a group of individuals?
I’d say that it makes it more likely for target.

      1. I’m not saying what you suggest doesn’t happen in many markets but in this case I doubt it. The character is being introduced in the New 52, she already has a cult following and she has a pretty rare first appearance. One should expect some hype surrounding this particular character as a result of those things.

  4. I think people want her to be the next Harley… Appeared in a kids comics first (BA 12), entered continuity, then gets hot.

  5. I also saw somewhere she was coming to the New 52. I found SA #5 at the LCS for $2.50 two weeks ago but they didn’t have the Action. I’ve been contemplating wether to hold or sell but I like the cover so I’ll probably just keep it. If it bombs I’m out a couple dollars.

  6. I think Livewire is legit!
The cover is cool, and the character has the following needed to keep-tha-heat!
I’m in, but I only have x2 NM copies so far, but I am continually on the hunt for this book…keepers all the way for me.
And like everyone are saying, if LW touches the new 52 universe, this book will EXPLODE in price!
Then, who wants to think IF she makes it into a DC movie or tv show, or any public media forum.
Definitely could be BA 12 worthy!

  7. Anthony, I’ve seen this book heat up for several weeks now but apprehensive about releasing it on my posts feeling it was something collusive as ‘Random Person’ mentioned. However, Live Wire has now gotten to be all the rage. Her 1st app. SA#5 is now selling BIN $90 NM on Ebay and rare BIDs are ending at $40-50 bucks. Shima’s got the right idea, fans want this to be the next HQ (as HQ’s 1st in any grade is almost unattainable- one sold last week in less than ~15 mins ‘at a steal’ for BIN $89.00 at VF) as an attainable key ‘Harleyesque’ book. So far, I grabbed me a Action #835 at cover, but SA #5 is super tough and still eludes me (must be that low low print run). I agree Pondside, it could be a hell of a book if she makes N52, and becomes as popular as HQ. We’ll just have to see how this pans out…

    1. $90!? I feel jipped now cause I just sold mine today for 45. Oh well maybe I’ll get lucky and find one locally.

  8. i found a copy at a comic book shop about 50 miles away on a visit for three bucks..and a superman adventures 1-11 mini set for 30 at the same place. who know what she will do

      1. thats sick man. if you would have died i would have had to claim you as a long lost cousin and snatched the comics. After the funeral of course.

        1. I picked them up and asked the shop owner if he had a limit on the amount of copies of a back issue one could buy. He said no, fill up a short box with as many of the same one as you want (I would have). Go to the counter and he asks why those. I said my wife likes the character from the cartoon and that she was just introduced to the new 52.
