Todd McFarlane announced mystery character optioned by Hollywood

Todd McFarlane announced last week that he sold the option for one of his characters to Hollywood. He posted on his Facebook account the sale of the option. He stated more news was to come.

Of course he stated that it is a “long steep road” to go from option to production. But it is time to put on our speculating hats.
First, I think we can most likely count out this one:
1749466-boof3reg
For some reason, this “gem” kept appearing in collections I bought in the 90’s. So on the outside chance that McFarlane optioned Boof, these will continue to clutter up a long box in storage.
Second, all the characters he created for Marvel and DC are out of the running, just not going to happen.
Third, we can count out Spawn. Todd has had a Spawn Movie, animated show, and video games, so that one is pretty much already used.
The options are really only two. Haunt and Sam and Twitch.
Haunt was co-created with Robert Kirkman, so Kirkman’s production company could help launch the character. However, Kirkman would be involved in the option, and it is doubtful this is the one.
Sam and Twitch seems like the more likely choice. These characters are owned solely by McFarlane, and while they are attached to the Spawn universe, they could easily be broken off into their own thing. Of course, McFarlane said character in the quote above, not sure if the team would count as character. Copies of #1 can be found on eBay for about $2.25.
Sam and Twitch does seem to be the popular choice over on our friends board at Google+ Speculation and investment board.

  1. I bet it all on Spawn. After reading his comments I am certain of it. He has no problem saying no when people guess at other characters, yet he kind of dances around the guesses at Spawn. It would make sense that he isn’t going to do his own movie. The CGI alone is going to come with one heavy price tag. Remember the poor CGI in the first movie??

  2. Tom Navea: A Sam N Twitch tv series would be awesome!
Todd McFarlane: Tom Navea…I had that project at NBC at on time, but it never got off the launch pad. TODD

    1. That’s what gets me, he said the tv show pitch failed. Says nothing about the movie though. It is clear that Spawn will get another adaptation, but unsure if that was what he was trying to get at.
Still cheering for the dark horse in the race, Boof

      1. Is the word “boof” a safe for work word? I know growing up, we had an entirely different meaning for this word.. 😉

      2. Urban Dictionary describes it under #6, at least the definition I recall which is; Another term for having sex, often suggesting anal.
Most of the time as kids, we used it by saying “I boofed your momma last night!” 😉

  3. I guess we’ll see. Thanks for the line. I bought five of each from My Comjc Shop for 1.20 each. Small investment for a possible return.
