Wool #1 a missed pick of the week

No surprise, I like small press books. I usually look right at the small press listings when I do the picks of the week. I also like books that pull from other genres as it can bring in readers and collectors in the cross over categories. So I am really surprised I missed this gem, Hugh Howey’s Wool #1

The story is a classic post-apocalyptic story. People live in shelters, they spend their whole lives there. Unless they do something wrong, at which point they get booted out and have to fend for themselves.
So, Wool is a triple threat. First, it is the comic adaptation of a series of books that were uber-popular. They were originally published as e-books, and then as novels. They sold a ton, and have a huge following. Real cult sci-fi stuff.
Wool is sold out at almost all major on-line stores, you will not find this on tfaw, Midtown, or mycomicshop, mile high. Gone.
Lastly, the publisher is a small press company called Cryptozoic Entertainment. Cryptozoic isn’t known for comics. It is a game publisher. It would have been way back in the back of Previews, where many retailers do not even bother looking at, much less ordering from.
There is only one copy of Wool #1 on eBay at the moment and it is going for $12.56
There are two covers to the books split evenly.

  1. I bought the books on Amazon a couple of years ago and I didn’t care for the story. It is a little slow and feels like living in an industrial plant.
