Comics Picks of the week for 9/24/14

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each one with potential. Some live up to the potential. We give our picks for the ones we think have the best chance of heating up. Here are our picks of the week for 9/24/14:
The once a year must-pick-up:
Simpsons Treehouse Of Horror #20– Yes, the regular Simpsons is monthly, but their annual horror anthology themed book is something special. This year, the theme is an all zombie book. I love zombies and love the Simpsons.
The heavy hitter of the week:
Roche Limit #1– No way to deny that this new Image book is the big release of the week. 2001: A Space Odyssey meets Blade Runner. Sold.
The Outside Chance:
Butterfly #1

Butterfly is one of Project Delta’s deep cover agents, no birth certificate, no social security number, a complete ghost. When her cover is blown and she is set up for a murder she did not commit, she is unknowingly led to her father’s doorstep, a man she thought died 20 years ago. Codenamed Nightingale, her father was once a member of the very same Project Delta, a spy in the violent aftermath of the Cold War, and believes they are behind her setup. Trained to trust nothing and no one, Butterfly must decide whether to seek answers with the Project, or believe the man who betrayed her years ago.

The must pick for the flip:
Wool #3- Already sold out on many web-based retailers. Fans of Howey’s books are taking note
The Pick of the Week:
Town Called Dragon #1– Not going to lie, this one looks really cool. Judd Winick is back with this book from Legendary Comics.

On the surface it seems like your average all-American tourist trap, but this snow-covered town hides a burning secret. After centuries of lying buried within the depths of an icy mountain, the world’s last dragon egg finally hatches – endangering modern life as we know it. Now an unlikely group of dangerously unqualified, ordinary citizens must band together, battling the elements and each other to slay this menacing creature.

Also coming out this week are these must buy long term books:
Saga #23– No way to pass up Saga, like Walking Dead issues, this one will continue to grow.
Outcast #4– Speaking of Kirkman books. The tv show treatment series continues, and is good.
Wayward #2– Cannot miss picking up this cool new series.
That is it for us this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. Not on my picks this week but should be are the 3d Harley Quinn book, shear madness with popularity of the character, and she appears in a 3d bathing suit with Joker. Also, new issue of Guardians of the Galaxy as the Cancerverse is revisited and what happened with Nova

  2. Bobs Burgers #1 2nd printing was sold out in advance of release with small print run – could be a hot one! DC 3D Harley Quinn is very cool but unfortunately super high print run – diamond still has over 3,200 copies left today

  3. Outcast #4. “A major new character is introduced…”. With a show in the works this could be a key issue. I’ll be picking up a few instead of just one.

    1. Yeah, I’ve been picking up at least 2 each from issue #2 (#1 I picked up about 6-7 I think). Want to make a set to sell, keep one for collection. Not sure how long I’ll go on buying two issues, the only other comics I pick up 2 each on an ongoing basis is Walking Dead and Manifest Destiny. I wish I bought doubles of Rat Queens but since #2-#5 all had two covers, I didn’t buy additional copies, now they’re all valued over cover price so makes it harder for me to fork out more money on them when they could sizzle back down before possibly catching more heat if the show ever comes to our televisions.

        1. Yeah, the later issues I do have a few doubles when I do come across them. I should just make it a habit to pick up two copies on this one.

  4. Anybody know where I can get a copy of A Town Called Dragon? They’ve sold out at the three main sites I use and then I was about to get one at gmart and it went from cover to twelve bucks before I could finish checking out, curses!

      1. Seems one of my local shops still had some. Although, most of them looked like they all had a matching spine ding across them. 🙁
