Civil War to come to Marvel cinematic universe.

I hate to say I told you so, but, well you know. Originally back in April of this year I wrote my predictions for where I thought parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were going, especially Captain America and the Avengers.
Here is what I wrote:

Copies of Captain America #6 (2005), the first full appearance of Bucky as the Winter Soldier are doing nicely. They continue to rise even after the release of the movie, which is a very good sign. Comics often drop off after the movie they are tied to comes out, but this one is staying up there. I am sure this is partially due to the 6 picture deal he was signed to.
Six picture deal. Let’s think about that for a minute. The Winter Soldier will most likely return in Captain America #3 as will Chris Evans who currently plays Cap, but what will happen after that. Evans’ contract is almost up, with two movies left (Avengers 2 and Captain 3). So let’s put our speculation thinking caps on for a second and guess where this is going. Most likely we will see a build up to ‘Civil War’ at the end of Avengers 2. Additionally, we will probably see the death of Steve Rogers, just like at the end of Civil War.
Might not be a bad time to get copies of Civil War cheap. If this is the way Marvel studios ends up going, we could see a rise in the series.

Variety.com is reporting that this is exactly the Direction the Cap and parts of Iron Man, and the Avengers movies are going.

Robert Downey Jr. is on the verge of signing on to “Captain America 3,” with Tony Stark’s Iron Man set to play a key role in bringing the Civil War storyline from Marvel’s comicbooks to the bigscreen and trigger the start of a new phase of movies from Marvel Studios.
The actor is in final negotiations to play the billionaire in the yet-to-be-titled third installment, that is slated to begin production in the Spring for a May 6, 2016, release, according to sources close to the discussions. Downey suits up as the superhero in next summer’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” as part of a previous deal that also calls for him to reprise the role in “The Avengers 3.”

The new pact is significant for the Marvel cinematic universe considering the plot will pit Stark against Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities.
Stark supports the program, but Rogers does not, saying it threatens civil liberties, causing sides to be taken and Rogers, among others, to go on the run to avoid arrest. The moral question and battle with his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a villain of sorts in “Captain America 3,” providing Downey with a meaty role he could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth “Avengers.”

Marvel on Monday announced plans to reboot the Civil War comicbook miniseries in 2015, which will help introduce the story to new readers leading up to “Captain America 3.” The first crossover of Marvel’s biggest characters, including Spider-Man, was published in 2006.

  1. It’s been years since I’ve read Civil War, but from what I remember wasn’t Speedball responsible for triggering the whole registration act? Can’t be just a coincidence that he’s going to be on the Shield TV show. Dig out those ASM annual 22’s!

    1. Agreed! And Speedball #1. You can find them both dirt cheap, but that won’t last long. I expect the copy of Civil War #1 sketch variant I got to raise in price dramatically.

  2. Didnt Evans say his retirement announcement was a bit premature and he wanted to extend his Marvel movie future? that would change his potential death in Cap 3.

  3. Good call on that! I wish I had remembered to pick it up when it read the article but all these books some slip thru the cracks.

  4. Got a message from the seller I got the sketch variant from saying it is not in stock. They refunded, but I call BS. :/

Seems these books are starting to approach the $15-$20 range on eBay for the NM-NM+ copies, that is for #2-#7. #1 is easily approaching the $50 range.
I happened to pick up numbers #4 and #7 at %50 off sale at one local shop this past weekend, they only had 3 x #4 and 1 x #7 left.
Get’em while you can, these look like easy flips currently or hold onto them to flip later possibly when the movie hits the screens.

      1. Yeah, I’m gonna hit up the other local shop with back issues to see what they have available. I’m trying to get a nice set for the collection but want to pick up any others for some flipping down the road.
