Our own forum hack, Agent Poyo, showed up in this month’s Letter Hacks in the back of Walking Dead #140 and clarified the argument on what Alpha’s first appearance was.
Well done Poyo bringing the mystery to a close. Alpha’s first appearance is Walking Dead #132.

KUDOS to you and thanks for writing the letter for clarification. I get plenty wrong tho… For instance, after rereading IM 55 and CM 25 thru 35, I have to back down and agree that IM 55 should be considered Thanos’ first appearance. Too much to remember sometimes… ?

Also note, issue 132 is one of the top 3 issues with the highest print runs out of all other issues, joining issues 100 and 115 in the top 3 thanks to the Loot Crate variant.
Loot crate variant was like 80% of the print run.
Yeah, so massive. I don’t see these heating up though, not unless she makes it to the show and plays a bigger role (which I think she will since Carl’s being a doofus and following them out into the wild).
I want the whispers on TV, it has much of a shot at heating up as 100 does with the first Negan.
Yeah I agree… but 100 had cool 2nd print variants. The Loot Crate variant just wasn’t that special to me.
Oh and I can’t wait until Negan shows up.. I got a few more 2nd print variants I’m holding onto to dump off to willing buyers.. 🙂
I can’t stand the regular cover to 132 though. Ranks right up there with #73 (Abraham looking like one of the Village people). #142 will make my WD all-time “sucks list” as well
Yeah, it’s definitely not up there as best covers for sure. I’ll agree, 142 just looks goofy..
I look at it like this. 132 is cameo of Alpha (one panel, 2 words, partial body, mask is still on). 1st full appearance 138 (she takes off mask, says I’m Alpha)

something weird is happening with walking dead collectors – since season 5 ended the back issues are super hot again – i’ve had more demand in the past week than i can remember – people wanting all the issues from 127 to 140 ? I think #132 is definitely going to get expensive eventually. Lots of high sales for #138 already.

Actually after the big debate here on Alpha’s first appearance.. I went and loaded up on a bunch of 132-138 myself when Midtown was having a 40% off recent issue sale.. it was nice nabbing these at a bigger discount to stockpile. 🙂

No, was a few weeks back. Seems Midtown is now out of stock of #132 now as well, probably after news broke and confirmed that was Alpha’s first appearance.
