Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday
Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week. We love to hear your weekly pick ups.
Alright Wednesday Warriors, what did you find missing from the shelves, and what was there stacks of?
Also, let’s hear those Free Comic Book Day stories. What were your massive pick ups? Anything cool?
I picked up a ton of Batman 1:25 variants for cover price (working on a set of them now), as well as a bunch of Batman Combo Packs.

Descender #3 (Still going strong, so must keep reading)
God Hates Astronauts #8 (Still a good laugh)
Nailbiter #12 (Underrated for sure, pick it up, it’s good)

Rocket Racoon #11 (Actually a great read and the art is cool)
    Secret Wars #1 (Yup)
Arcadia #1 (Seems interesting and could be promising)
Cluster #4 (A very good read, my favorite Boom! book currently besides Trouble in China)
Afterlife With Archie #8 (Bout time it came back.. was getting worried there)

      1. Yup on the Shining homage and almost a pick but figured most should already be picking it up. 🙂

    1. Was able to grab the Esad Ribic Secret Wars Promo Variant along with the Butch Guice Classic Variant at cover price. Neither of the shops I visited had the Batman or other delayed Polybag issues..

    Bodie Troll Fuzzy Memories 1
    Convergence 5

  3. This weeks picks. For some reason I thought it was going to be big but it turn out small. I might get some Secret War variants on some covers that I liked.
    ASM #18
    Batman #40 combo pack X2
    Covergence Harley Quinn #2
Return of the living Deadpool #4
    Names #9
    Secret Wars #1

  4. I’m skipping Secret Wars and Convergence. None of this really matters, Dc and Marvel are trying to bleed us dry. Is anyone else painfully tired of the Marvel vs Fox fight? It’s like little kids fighting on the playground.

  5. Another great week. cant wait to get off work and get to the shops
    1. amazing spider-man 18
    2. ant man 5
    3. hulk 16
    4. inhuman annual 1 (normally I stay away from annuals and specials, but this one is apparently directly connected to the main story. which annoys me. if its part o the main story, number it accordingly)
    5. secret wars 1
    6. spider-gwen 4 (don’t see a lot of people picking this one up. everybody over her already? im still enjoying it)
    7. wolverines 17
    8. swords of sorrow 1
    9. descender 3 (number 2 wasn’t as good as number 1, but number 1 was so good that i’ll give this series the benefit of the doubt for the next several issues)
    10. nailbiter 12
    11. pussycats 1

    1. also here were my free comic day selections if anyones interested
      1. secret wars 0
      2. divergence 1 (god bless scott Snyder)
      3. tmnt
      4. fight club (further evidence that great authors and screenwriters are not automatically great comic book writers….looking at you Quentin terantino and django/zorro)
      5. all new all different avengers (so lame. so so lame)
      6. savage dragon
      7. the tick
      8. grimms fairty tales wonderland
      9. bobs burgers (don’t think this translates to comics too well. except for tina.)
      10. dark circle

    2. Yeah, I’m over Spider-Gwen… I can always go back and read on my Marvel Unlimited account when they start releasing these monthly in about 6 months. The art was good but the story wasn’t there for me to waste $3.99 a month on. I’ll certainly pick up spec/flip worthy issues but I don’t see those happening for quite some time now, it’ll always be EOSV and the few #1 variants that stick with a premium for the most part I think with Spider-Gwen.

  6. FYI,
Midtown has a bunch of the leftover FCBD issues available. If you’re making any orders with them, be sure to grab some of the free stuff as well.

  7. Yeah Spider-Gwen just died for me. The story was just plane boring and wasn’t catching my attention. Haven’t read Bob’s Burgers but plan to. My wife loves the series so far and Tina is her favorite and she says you definitely need to make the Tina voice lol.

  8. As for FCBD, Batman was there with his 1989 Bat-mobile replica. My little one didn’t want to take a pic with him even though he loves anything Batman or Spiderman. But he did take a pick with deathstroke. It was just a fun family day. Richard Friend and Mark Irwin

  9. Today I picked up:
All New Captain America Special #1
    Amazing Spider-Man #18
    Ant-Man #5 (I’m enjoying this more than I thought I would)
Batman #40 Combo Pack (x1 at LCS, x1 at Graham Crackers)
Covergence #5 (yes, I’m sticking it out with the main story!)
Convergence Harley Quinn #2 (both covers, because it’s Harley)
    Guardians Team-Up #5
Justice League #40 Combo Pack (booyah!)
Return of the Living Deadpool #4
Roche Limit Clandestine #1 (I was going to drop this after the first arc because the art was getting on my nerves but this one looks better)
    Rocket Raccoon #11
Secret Wars #1 (Regular + Action Figure variant)
    Spider-Gwen #2 (I’m still a believer! lol)
    Spider-Woman #7
    Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #5
    Wicked + The Divine #10
    Wolverines #17
This week wasn’t too bad. Some of the Image titles I read are on hiatus for a few months and DC shot themselves in the foot with Convergence. I’m not going to get super-involved with Secret Wars and will pick up an issue here and there. Hoping to save some $$$ over the next few months. Woo hoo!

  10. Frak. Didn’t know about the heat on the Wonder Woman ’77 and passed on the variant cover for about $35 even though I was debating just getting it just for the sweetness of the cover art. Now looking at what it’s going for on the ebays… missed out on that one… oh well.
    Ant-Man #5
    Arcadia #1
    Dead Drop #1
    Descender #3
    Kanan the Last Padawan #2
    Nailbiter #12
    Rachel Rising #33
Secret Wars #1 – regular cover
Secret Wars #1 – action figure cover
    Spider-Gwen #4
We Can Never Go Home #2
    Wonder Woman 77 #1 – regular cover

    1. Honestly, I actually like the regular cover for Wonder Woman 77 better than the variant..

        1. Yup, the only reason I was gonna grab one if I could cheap. Sadly, one shop was out, the other didn’t get it.

  11. Rat God #4 – Richard Corben is a total freeeeeeeeaaaakkkkk. Love this series. Love his art.
Jupiter’s Circle #2 – The first issue left me a little eh, but I’m curious about how nuanced the execution of the “intolerance for homosexuality” theme becomes. I do like the silver age vibe, and Frank Quitely’s doing the cover – he’s great.

  12. Even though it’s Wednesday, I’m throwing in the towel on flipping the Secret War # 1 variants. Too late in the game for a decent profit.

    1. Yeah, I hadn’t planned to flip any. I’m just glad I got the few I did at cover price instead. I primarily wanted the Ribic cover, I love his art and style.

  13. Pretty light day for me, I guess…
    Descenders 3
    God Hates Astro. Covers a/b
    Nailbiter 12
Secret Wars 1 – Reg, Action, Blank covers
    Wicked & Devine
    Inhuman Annual 1
    Roche Limit
    Dead Drop
Batman 40 combo x 3 – orders were def cut b/c I’ve had 5 on order since previews.
Divergence x 36 – had to pay 26 cents an issue now but with my 20% discount it was like 7.50 to spec these. Could be a very important issue in more ways than one in the future.

      1. Lol. Yeah, he asked if I wanted the rest of the Secret Wars and they were 50 cents each now. I was like “Heck no, that’s crazy money!”. The other “good” comics all sold out (given away) on Saturday so there was nothing else to snag. But that’s good for comics in general.

  14. Picked up:
    Rachael Rising
    Samurai Jack
    Descender
    Rocket Raccoon
    Squirrel Girl
    Arcadia 1
Guardian Team Up 5 (Rocket & Lockjaw & the Pet Avengers)
Found in back issues for cheap:
Coyote 11 (1st Todd McFarlane work)
Coyote 13 (1st Todd McFarlane cover)
    Daredevil 241 (McFarlane’s only Daredevil)
Infinite Horizon 1 (thanks for the heads up)

  15. Wonder Woman 77 1:25 2 copies put em on ebay things went super fast
    Superman 40 1:100 2 copies
We can never go home #2 3 copies
Secret Wars Action Figure 3 copies(im a sucker for these things)
