Matthew McConaughey to play Norman Osborn

Is Matthew McConaughey being courted to play Norman Osborn / Green Goblin? Looks that way.

Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) recently revealed that he has read movie scripts for Marvel and DC projects, and now a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that Marvel wants him for a villainous role in their Spider-Man reboot.
That Hashtag Show is reporting that their source has informed them that Marvel is eyeing McConaughey for the role of Norman Osborn in the Spider-Man reboot. This source, which the claim is “reliable,” based on previous Avengers: Age of Ultron info on the new Avengers lineup and Quicksilver’s fate. Of course, take this latest rumor with a grain of salt.
If McConaughey does take it on, he’ll be the third feature film actor to play the head of Oscorp, who eventually becomes the Green Goblin. The previous two actors to play the ruthless villain were Willem Dafoe (Platoon) and Chris Cooper (American Beauty).

  1. Seriously ? That would be 3 different actors portraying him in the past decade. We really don’t need another Osborn in ANOTHER Spider-man reboot.

  2. All right, all right, all right. Seriously though, I have a feeling that this won’t actually happen.

  3. yeah….. they do know spiderman has OTHER villians besides green goblin right ? yeah, i get that hes … one of the main bad guys, but its a bit much when hes at the front of every spiderman movie. first movie vulture, 2nd venom and 3rd movie carnage , this is something that should be done

    1. Absolutely, I don’t understand how you couldn’t include him as a character. Osborn has been behind some of the more pivotal and defining moments in ASM history, and more importantly, unlike Venom or Carnage who are tied in a number of ways to comic elements they might not be interested in introducing, he offers a standalone presence to the Universe which can enrich parts of the Marvel World beyond Spider-Man. It shows us another MU corporate entity, and provides us with a creative way to introduce other meta humans through Osborn Industry initiatives, while also opening the door for telling some of the most iconic Spidey stories in popular culture. I think it’s great if they want to introduce Norman again. Especially as an age appropriate foil to an age appropriate Peter.

  4. Ugh, I thought he was great in Dallas Buyers club and of course the classic Dazed and Confused, but I just don’t see it.
