Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 8/26/15:
Well, we are in the middle of the summer doldrums (dull-droms if you will.) This does not mean there aren’t a ton of great books with great potential.
The small press gem
Over The Garden Wall #1– The first one shot took every one by surprise. Do not let the new book pass you by. The book is based on the Cartoon Network’s first original series.
The one with Buzz
Drive– Good buzz on this IDW published movie tie in. Starting to sell out online (midtown is sold out.)
The random Marvel one on the list
SHIELD #9– Normally I stay away from Marvel books for spec picks, but this includes a sequence penciled by Jack Kirby and inked by Jim Steranko that has never seen print as part of a story before. Reprints the first appearance of SHIELD from 1965. Also be on the lookout for Shield #9 1:50 Kirby and Steranko Variant and the Shield #9 1:75 Kirby and Steranko Variant
The seemingly odd choice on the list
Sherlock Holmes 7 Per-cent Solution #1– Yeah, this is an odd one for the list. Sherlock Holmes written by best-selling Sherlock Holmes novel by writer Nicholas Meyer. Gives the details about who Moriarty really is. If you ever saw Young Sherlock Holmes (the movie) there were clues dropped there. This is kind of a self-serving pick for me as I am a fan of Sherlock. The game is afoot.
The Pick of the week
We Can Never Go Home #4– No doubt one of the hottest series this year. WCNGH has seen a lot of success and with small print runs these books have been sought after.
Returning Favorites
East of West returns with issue #20. Spread #9 also brings back the popular Justin Jordan and Kyle Strahm series. Also, Fight Club 2 #4 brings Tyler Durden back to comic shops.
That’s it for this week. As always, let us know what you are spec-ing on.
Going to take a gamble and buy WCNGH #4 since I let the first 3 slip of my fingers.
