Variant Envy: Vader Down #1

by DrunkWooky.

The only way to keep the Action Figure variant fad going is to start taking a new spin on things. So, John Tyler Christopher has gone with the back side of the blister pack and done a checklist.

Midtown Comics was the first to slap their logo on the John Tyler Christopher Action Figure Checklist Retailer Variant for Vader Down #1

I have to nab one of these. Otherwise, how will I know if I have them all!? There’s literally no way of knowing. Release date is Nov. 11, 2015

(Editors Note: They do not have the black and white variants on there so Wooky will never know)

  1. After the fiasco of trying and failing to order the Boba Fett variants from the Artist’s website and seeing established dealers having many of them on pre-sale for many multiples of the original asking price, I am soured on any covers this guy does. Didn’t care for his business practices through his web site. They leaned too much in favor of dealers and per-existing customers. Basically saying (in my opinion anyway) if you are new here and can get one great, if not, screw you, I got paid so who cares. Haven’t bought one of his covers in months and don’t feel the need to now. Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade. If you like it buy it. That’s what the hobby is about. Just giving my opinion, nothing more. If you can’t rant on Comicsheatingup.net, where can you???

  2. Totally agree with you on this one ocguy72. It sucks when the artist tries to make it seam like the books are available to everyone but has tricks up there sleaves. Lol

    1. Yeah, we will see how he handles future sales. I don’t predict a big change in practice since the money was there both times, and fast sell outs at that, but you never know.

  3. I can’t get enough of these AF covers, got every one so far, I think they are too awesome to pass up on collecting any of them, and the scarce ones are still holding & going up in value. Do agree though with the comments on how JTC handled the sales on his site which has put some collectors off which is a shame. I really hope these covers aren’t a short lived fad, I do think they will keep getting hotter though as time goes on and new collectors start trying to source the older AF variants in years time.

    1. Well, I do think that these blister pack covers are a fad…Will they hold up the test of time? That is up to the collectors. I think they are starting to over saturate a little, but if people still want them they will be made. Either way if you are enjoying them, keep collecting and enjoy!

      1. That’s the feeling i’m starting to get now that it seems like it’s reaching over saturation, although they still have my full interest in collecting them and will carry on. However if they do all end up utterly worthless one day then i’ll have the worlds most awesome wall paper 😀

      1. Haha iv’e actually been wondering that I bet one day some oversized variants will come out with like a Rancor or a ship lol

    1. I can understand why people are tired of these. People got tired of Skottie Young variants ages ago, though, and those are printed for just about every single Marvel #1 that ever gets printed. It won’t go away. They just won’t be speculation worthy moving forward, I don’t think.

  4. I’m gonna actually stick up for JTC here. I ordered a few copies of the colour boba fett. They had a nightmare with the whole grading thing, it turned into a fiasco they were not expecting and it took a while but he and his wife Jen totally sorted it out when they could have just thought it was to much hassle and not bothered. So whilst I think that maybe it wasn’t the way to go with the whole first come first served thorough the website thing, I think they had not idea what they where opening themselves up to. They where very decent people in my experience.

    1. That’s what I think too, I think they massively underestimated the response from the exclusives. They made the max qty on the B&W Fett half of what it was with the colour Fett and it still sold out in 8 minutes due to buyers remembering how hot the colour one was and just had to get in on it ( including me ). I have a feeling next time the max limit may be massively cut again with them knowing how many people lost out, I really do believe they are trying to think about the fans and just not foreseeing the madness till it happens. Plus when you think about the tidal wave of emails they must have got about their orders on top of having to package & ship everything with such little man power to handle it it’s amazing how nice & informative they were when they eventually did reply to my email.
