Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 11/11/15

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 11/11/15:

The one with the Walking and the Dead

Walking Dead #148– Mainstay on the list here. The show is really hot this year, a lot of action, and they keep pulling from the comics, Negan was announced today. So it is just time before the Whisperer story-line makes it to the show.

Vertigo’s hot new thing

Slash and Burn #1– Vertigo has been on fire lately, putting out great books. Here is another one.

Another day, another hot date. Firefighter Rosheen Hayes takes her relationships with conflagration seriously, whether it’s the trigger-happy burn victim with his sights on her partner or a chance encounter igniting memories of arson at the orphanage. But is she the super-sleuth fire-whisperer or twisted firestarter?

This new ongoing series from writer Si Spencer has all the mystery and intrigue of his hit Vertigo miniseries BODIES, with art by Max Dunbar (Dungeons & Dragons) and veteran inker Ande Parks (The Irredeemable Ant-Man), SLASH & BURN is a tricky thriller that explores both the excitement and the consequences of succumbing to one’s darkest impulses.

The New Image #1

The Goddamned #1– You cannot pass up how good Jason Aaron is. His work on Southern Bastards alone has me hooked. This one is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Limbo #1– Yes it is a new mini series, but just sounds awesome.

A detective with no memory, no identity and no manners. A femme fatale seeking escape from a powerful crime lord. A voodoo queen with a penchant for mixtapes and hi-tops. A goat-eating TV… Welcome to Dedande City, where good people check under their beds at night and reality is never quite what it seems. A NEW surreal neon-noir series crossing 50s pulp with an 80s VHS visual aesthetic drawing from the likes of Carpenter, Cronenbrg, and Lynch.

The “But it has been done before one”

GI Joe #219 Action Figure Variant– This has been done before, and done well by More Great Art, but this one is closer to the original packaging and does feature fan favorite Snake Eyes, cannot pass that up.

The Pick of the Week

Last Sons of America #1Boom has been rocking with announcements for movie and TV deals lately. This is a book that could easily be translated into a show with minimum budget.

When a biological terrorist attack makes it impossible for anyone in America to conceive children, adoption of kids from other counties explodes. Brothers Jackie and Julian are adoption agents based in Nicaragua. They usually do all their options through legal means, but they’re facing increasing competition from straight-up kidnappers. One desperate move from Jackie could put them in the cross-hairs of some very dangerous people.

  1. I am wondering, too, if “Fear The Walking Dead” has enough of a following to continue on it’s own, even if “The Walking Dead” eventually ends, they could end up pulling stories from the comics to apply to that all-new cast of characters. So if TWD doesn’t end up using the Whisperers storyline, it could be used in a future season of “Fear…”. TWD can’t last forever. But if people grow attached to the new characters introduced in “Fear…”, it could have legs to continue for many more seasons, and let them still continue to pull from the adjacent source material. 🙂

      1. I’m the same.. it wasn’t a big deal like TWD is on Sunday nights. Hopefully it gets more interesting after more people die, there are more zombies and the mom dies with her horrible acting!
