Agent Poyo’s picks of the week for November 11th, 2015

Welcome to another Tuesday evening edition of Poyo’s picks of the week for November 11th, 2015. This Wednesday we can expect our Enormous #2 Cover B to finally arrive. Thanks Diamond.. it’s probably not your fault for the month long delay but we’ll blame you anyways. So be sure to pick up your copy so your Enormous set is fully complete.
Now, on with the picks.

The DC/Vertigo picks (There’s two this week) of the week:

Superman American Alien #1 (DC) – A 7 issue mini-series that dives into the world of Clark Kent before he’s Superman. One reason this is a pick is I love Nick Dragotta’s art. Can’t go wrong with Max Landis writing either.

Batman #46 (DC) – Batman finally comes face to face to the new villain Bloom. Bout freaking time..

Marvel picks of the week (Yes sir, two in Marvel as well):

All New Wolverine #1 (Marvel) – It’s X-23 as the new Wolverine, to carry on Logan’s mission. I myself am all Wolverined out but this could be an issue to hold onto, if X-23 remains popular, media deals start occurring, etc. Not a first appearance but first ongoing series as her being Wolverine could be significant later on.

Secret Wars #7 (Marvel) – The description is “The greatest sacrifice”.. is someone major going to die? Does it matter in this alternate collapsing universe? Shouldn’t they have ended Secret Wars before all the new reboots? So many questions..

The Image specs of the week:

The Goddamned #1 (Image) – Jason Aaron teams up with his pal from Scalped to bring us a biblical noir ongoing story of failed human experiment. It’s Jason Aaron, who never seems to disappoint.

Walking Dead #148 (Image) – We were last left with the new girl Lydia pointing a gun at Andrea.. I doubt Andrea dies but you know, this is the Walking Dead, anything can happen and anyone can die at any moment. The show is as popular as ever, back issues seem to slowly disappear off the shelves and soon become $10 or more books. You can’t go wrong picking up Walking Dead, even if you don’t read them, there’s a good chance at flipping a book later on for decent profit.

The Indie Spec of the week:
Black Bag #1 (Legendary) – Suburban house wife gets top secret side job? Sounds like Lady Killer which we all loved and never wanted to end but seems to have a thriller twist to the story.

That’s all I got for this week..

    1. Hard to tell. If the book really takes off with good writing and art, any of them could be a winner. It’s proven in the past to not bet on most of the variants though, especially with Marvel, the regular cover could be the winner in the long run. The Hip Hop variant will attract those hip hop fans, I think it will be one of the winners and will be hard to get a hold of when supplies dry up. Having a female Wolverine though might attract more female readers as well. Surprisingly, I don’t think there is one bad cover for this #1, I actually like them all and that’s rare.

  1. Hey Poyo;
    In this new wolverine, is it the first time X-23 dresses like wolverine ? Or has she warned the uniform before?

    1. This is the first time X-23 has ever dressed as Wolverine. There have been other female Wolverine characters in the past, but never X-23. I am often reminded of “Wild Thing”, Wolverine’s daughter from MC-2 (Spider-girl’s future), who had a short-lived series and made random appearances in MC-2 books.

    1. I picked one up, just in case. I’ll read it but I probably won’t be picking it up after this issue, unless it’s just really good. Like I said, I’m Wolverined out, even if it is a hot girl in spandex.. 😉
