With LCSD passed and gone (hope everyone got what they wanted.. I know I picked up way more than I should have) it’s now the best day of the week again, Wednesday, new comic book day.
DC/Veritigo Pick of the Week:
Unfollow #2 (Vertigo) – With a media option already, the remaining #1 flew off all your local comic shop shelves. We all #2 drop in print numbers as well, so if you’re following this new series (which by the way is good so far), be sure to not miss this issue as it might hard to come by down the road (think of The Strain first series, #2 and #3 are harder to find than #1).
Honorable Mention goes to Sheriff of Babylon #1 (Vertigo), new 8 issue series about a Sheriff from Florida turn Military contractor training a new Iraqi police force. Anthony is doing a signing with Tom King tomorrow. Check it out here.
Marvel Pick of the Week:
Lots of new Marvel reboot titles coming out, with a few new series as well, like Red Wolf but my pick of the week goes to Daredevil #1 (Marvel). With the popular Netflix series, I think Daredevil is going to pick up more fans that might turn into more comic book readers.
The one everyone will be talking about though is Invincible Iron Man #4 (Marvel), where Mary Jane Watson makes her appearance apparently* (* remember all the hoopla in Spider-Man Renew Your Vows?).
Indie Pick of the Week:
Kodoja #1– I had the NYCC versions of these and sold them quickly. There was that much pre-heat for the new 215Ink book. I do regret selling them all. 215Ink is the king of Giant Monster books! (215 Ink) – The same people who bring us Enormous (a CHU favorite).. bring us a new series that sounds just as interesting.
“Three years ago, Special Weapons Division deactivated a highly advanced 200-foot tall superweapon called ‘Kodoja’ because it was too powerful. Today, Kodoja has been reactivated without warning and is cutting a swath of destruction across America and leveling every outpost of Special Weapons Division, save one. The one surviving outpost, headed by chief designer, Jennifer Cruz, must stop the weapon they designed too be unstoppable.”
Yes Please!
The honorable mention is Black Mask’s new series X’ed #1 (Black Mask), about subliminal hitmen who are injected into your mind to hunt down all your demons who haunt you. Sounds interesting enough, definitely worth picking up to check out. Can’t go wrong with Black Mask either, they’ve hit a few home runs lately as well.
Image #1 Pick of the Week:
Doesn’t it always seem Image has a new #1 each week? Not all survive, Image cancelling comics before they at least wrap up an conclusion as NBC cuts new shows before people even know about them.
Anyways, on with the pick which is Black Jack Ketchum #1 (Image), Tom Ketchum has to clear his name, question his own existence as being mistaken for an outlaw named “Black Jack” Ketchum.
Paper Girls #3 hits stands along with another newcomer Citizen Jack #2 (which totally surprised me in being really really good).
Other mentions are Sunflower #2 from 451 Media, which is already sold out at some online retailers. I’m still up in the air about this one, I thought issue 1 was way too choppy, needed more character building. It seems rushed and missing a bunch in the story. Perhaps I’ll give #2 a try though, hoping it gets better.
Another CHU favorite coming out is We Can Never Go Home #5 (Black Mask).. which if you didn’t pick up the hardcover on LCSD, you can read already as it’s included in the first volume edition.
That’s all I got this week, I could list more things as lots of good stuff hitting the shelves this week. What are you picking up? What are you spec’ing on? Tell us in the Wednesday forum or here..
