Blind Adam's Hidden Gems

Blind Adam us a comic book dealer in New York and New Jersey, and yes, he is blind. He has been contributing a fun list of hidden gems each week.
What’s up CHU, it’s your boy Blind Adam back again.
Thank you all for being an awesome and amazing family. Thank you for reading this each and every week. Thanks for the feed back, advice, support, and encouragement. Now then, lets make the money on some funny books.
1. Weird Mystery Tales #1– first appearance of Destiny written by Marv Wolfman and later made famous by Neal Gaiman in the Sandman series.
2. Weird Mystery Tales #4– has more concepts for things that would appear in the Neal Gaiman’s Sandman series, first appearance Pre-Sandman of Lucifer Morningstar
3. Dynomutt #1– first Dynomutt and Blue Falcon. Hanna Barbera is coming to DC Comics and this is my favorite of all their cartoons
4. Dell Giant #48– the first appearance of the Flintstones in comic books. I am looking forward to the reboot, now all I need is a Betty Rubble variant by J. Scott Campbell
5. Space Ghost #1– great story with Alex Ross art $3-5
6. Superman #50– yes this comes out in a few weeks. I can see it being under ordered so lock in copies
7. Batman #121 Toys R Us reprint– Mr. Freeze is coming to Gotham on fox. This reprint came out in 1997 and if memory serves me correct, this was part of a three pack that included Detective Comics #38 and Detective #359. This is a tough reprint associated with a bad movie but we will get a decent live action Mr. Freeze
8. Detective comics #501– first Julia Pennyworth, Alfred’s daughter. If the rumors are true and Alfred kicks the bucket, I predict Julia will take his place $5-10
9. TV Guide May 2002– J. Scott Campbell cover. This came out the week before or of the first old school Toby Spider-man movie and features a J Scott Campbell cover, and with J Scott Campbell covers featuring Spider-man being hot, why is this only $5 on eBay?
10. X-Factor #68– with all the hype on Cable being in Deadpool 2, I figured this Cable book, featuring the origin of baby Nathan, which is in dollar bins would be a great fit. Also features the death of Apocalypse. But wow, did prices on Cable Deadpool #1 go up quick
11. Justice Society of America #1 (1992)- 1st Jesse Quick. Now that she will have a better role in the show, this might get a better bump. $10-20
12. Ghost #17– first major artwork of Ivan Reis, who is my favorite artist at DC right now $1-3
13. Captain America #454– last issue of original run. Low print run, great Mark Waid story. Damn Heroes Reborn $5-10
14. Justice League of America Annual #2– this is the first appearance of Vibe and with the popularity of the Flash TV show, I want to know why is it so cheap $10-20?
15. Action Comics #276– first Brainiac 5 of the Legion of Superheroes. It is only a matter of time before the awesomesauce that is Supergirl on CBS does Brainaic 5. Hey a Legion Ring was in the Flash show, and seriously, stop hating on Supergirl as it is the best Superman property on screen right now
16. Dork #1– Evan Dorken scripts. Funny series and this is the series that would bring us The Eltingville Club a beloved but forgotten adult swim pilot
17. Shocking Suspense Fanzine #2– was doing research on Marv Wolfman for a future interview for the podcast, and learned that this 1960’s fanzine is the first published work of Stephen King. Yes some of my picks this week don’t have a great deal of spec value in the short term but, wow, this would make a great long term investment plus it is Stephen King still finding his voice which is awesome.
18. Scooby Doo #1– DC Comics current series is a kick in the butt. When this is the highest numbered DC comics series with the reboot, and hipster mystery gang coming, this book should get some love $5-10
maybe higher
19. Daredevil the Target #1– Daredevil Season 2 hits Netflix on March 18th. I believe Bullseye will be in season three when it comes to that. But this is a classic issue that would have been a great series if Kevin Smith ever finished it. Kevin Smith is the greatest film maker of all time. Yes, I said it and this book fell victim of way too much on the man’s plate at the time. Dollar bin to $5 and it is a fun read, testify
20. The Flash #114– second appearance of this unknown t.v. star Captain Cold. First appearance in a Flash comic. Just find the grade you can afford, but Captain Cold is the break out star of Legends of Tomorrow
21. Space Punisher #4– poor Frank Castle he had some really bad comics over the years. This might be the worst, but it is also one of the lowest printed Punisher comic. Under 20k and tough to find at $10. A runner up is Punisher issues between #101-104 ,all averaging around $15-20, Trust me Daredevil Season Two will not disappoint and that is all I am allowed to say until March 18th
Once again I love you guys. Thank you all for helping my dreams come true. Take care and see you all next week, blind adam out

  1. I purchased Cable and Deadpool #1 for $22 a week before the Deadpool movie release on Amazon of all places. Seller never shipped it never replied and screwed me out of getting this book cheap. Never again will I buy from Amazon!

    1. I hate that about Amazon. Unlike eBay, Amazon makes it very easy for sellers to just cancel orders on a whim, with no consequences. At least with eBay, they limit how many items a seller can cancel per year, and unless you are a huge seller, it is a very small number. I’ve also had bad experiences with the comic book site, Atomic Avenue; if you ever use that one. Sellers frequently fail to ship an order, usually because they posted their books for sale and then forgot about the website entirely, so your payment is sitting in limbo until you file a complaint with Paypal to get it back. Other times, sellers will have accidentally listed their personal collection for sale and didn’t intend to, so you think you’re getting a good deal, and then you suddenly get a refund. I’ve had much better experiences with Comic Collector Live. I wish more sellers/stores would join that site.

    2. Yeah, amazon does not regulate collectibles very well and does little to nothing to sellers who pull that kind of garbage. That and most of the time the prices are outrageous for comics on Amazon. The occasional deal maybe…but only rarely.

  2. Wow! Is Scooby-Doo really the highest numbered comic in DC’s last reboot line? I think that is great. People still love those meddling kids. I know speculators soured on Scooby-Doo Team Up #12, the other Scooby-Doo line, but my daughter and I enjoyed re-reading the story to catch all the clues. See, kids are reading comics! Thanks, Adam, for your regular posts!

    1. Me and my two sons are actually big Scooby Doo Fans. Between the different shows that still air, and the live action movies, rarely a day goes by where some sort of Scooby Doo is on in the house.

  3. I hadn’t heard that rumor about Alfred dying, but Julia is already deeply entrenched in Batman’s activities now, so she is at least a more prominent character than ever before. I haven’t been able to get her original first appearance, but her first appearance in the New52 was in Batman Eternal. I want to say it was #9. I grabbed a bunch of those because it retcons her pre-New52 appearances, as though we’d never seen her before (kind of like they did with Spoiler & others), and some of those “New52 First Appearances” have seen a rise in value.

  4. I think Blind Adam is reading a lot of other spec pages and pulling right from them. Some of these picks and picks from last time were specifically mentioned in very recent articles elsewhere. There’s nothing wrong with that but it should be noted.

    1. Can’t say exactly where they are coming from as I am not the one writing it. I do always like to source my references when doing something (have used you as a reference several times).

      1. Yea I am not trying to be a jerk either, I get mad at myself when I forget to give someone else credit and it does happen. I think the best thing to do it to try an avoid using books others mention so soon after they have mentioned them. It’s really doesn’t matter though, the more info that’s out there and in more places the better for collectors.

        1. TS. I agree 100%. Trey K. Of CBSI said that spec is an echo chamber. One site mentions something, another does and so on. It the process the talk and spec grows. Not a bad thing. I don’t think that you were being a jerk. I see stuff we post put up on other places all the time with no credit back. It sometimes ticks me off and other times doesn’t. I do like to give credit if I use someone’s stuff.

    1. Hey that’s cool man, I love your picks. I just found it odd a few from this week were literally featured on major spec pages elsewhere. Prob just a coincidence!

  5. Took advantage of the Detective toys r Us 3 pack. Still a few 3 packs on Ebay for $15. Not bad for some classic reading!

    1. I double checked and in issue 4 is a story called “The Devil To Pay” which featured him. Don’t have 3 so cannot verify, but updated all the same. Cheers.
