Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 4/13/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to the potential. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/13/16.
Ho boy, this is going to be a wallet busting week. A lot of new series starting out that I want to check out.
Returning Favorites
Dark & Bloody #3– Story has been just that, dark and bloody. Really good horror read.
Deadly Class #20– Remender rocks this book. Lot’s of violence and punk rock references. The back matter is just as good to read as the story.
Harrow County #11– Still my favorite current horror read. TV optioned.
Kodoja #5– I know the art isn’t for everyone, but the story is very good and I do love this government created giant monster story. (Want to check it out, TFAW has the first issue for $1)
Monstress #5– One of the best reads on the stands with beautiful art. Early issues are sold out and have heated up.
The Good Read Pick
Moon Knight #1– Jeff Lemire is turning Moon Knight on it’s head. Marc Spector is Moon Knight right? Maybe not, maybe he is just insane and has been hallucinating it all along. I do love Moon Knight and this series has been highly anticipated.
The Star Wars One
C-3PO Special– The one line that cracked me up more than anything else is when C-3PO said to Han Solo “It’s me C-3PO but you might not have recognized me because of my red arm.” This is the story of the red arm.
The Ones Everyone are getting Anyway
Gwenpool #1– Gwen Poole makes it to the Marvel Universe proper in her own series. Do not kid yourself, this will sell out and will rise in price. Sure, large print run, but this is a slow burner.
Spider-Gwen #7D Campbell Connecting Variant– See above, its the all Gwen segment.
Small Press Gems
Jackpot #1– A $1.99 book from Aftershock. A group of cons trying to pull off their biggest job to date, ripping off Gods. Worth a try for $1.99.
House of Penance #1– Dark Horse does some of the most constantly good horror. This should be good. I love historical stories, and one of my favorites is the Winchester House and Sarah Winchester. History and horror are my two favorite things and mixing the two together make me intrigued.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Hot Damn #1– From the creative team that brought us D4ve. Hard living catches up to Teddy, and eternal damnation awaits-but it’s nothing like the good book tells you. Hell is a therapy session you can never leave
Pick of the Week
Heartthrob #1– This is an odd pick for me, but hear me out. First, here is the solicitation:

Callie Boudreau hasn’t been herself lately. After a lifetime sidelined by illness, she’s rescued by a miracle cure in the form of heart transplant surgery, but the life she returns to doesn’t fit her anymore. Besides the morally questionable job, the crappy boyfriend and the crippling hospital bills, Callie finds herself developing new tastes, unfamiliar urges and a mouth like a sailor. As she balances what she has to do with what she wants to do, a mystery man shows up to teach her that instead of waiting for her new life, she should go out and steal it.

This is going to be a slow burn pick. Oni has a first look deal with Universal. This one could easily be picked up, and made into tv show or movie. The strong female lead and the change of life, with a little mystery thrown in, could make for an interesting story.
That is it for us this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. I agree on Heartthrob ,looks interesting.Ordered the Fleetwood Mac rumours cover thought that was cool.

    1. And fixed. Truth be told Jesus, since I switched jobs back in July of last year, I have less time to get the site ready for the Wednesday night update and some times just screw up. I do appreciate the heads up! Now the posts have 100% date accuracy.

  2. “Gwen Poole makes it to the Marvel Universe proper in her own series. Do not kid yourself, this will sell out and will rise in price. Sure, large print run, but this is a slow burner.” Ooooo. Take THAT Poyo!

  3. Gwenpool 1 variant average prices based on early sales at ebay as follows. 1:50 $60. Campbell pulp $37. 1:25 $22. 1:20 $13. Campbell Hastings $15. Market is usually a better indicator than people’s opinions.
