Agent Poyo's Picks of the Week for 4/20/2016

It’s that time of the week again, always feels like Christmas Eve, every Tuesday, the night before new comic book Wednesday. Every week, all these goodies come out for all us comic book nerds to have nerdasms over, what’s hot, what’s not.. what’s going to heat up? What did I miss for an easy flip?
So this week is no different, with lots of new good stuff so lets get on with it.
DC/Vertigo Pick
Honestly, nothing really stands out as a real winner in the DC world. Superman American Alien #6 hits stands. Poison Ivy #4 also hits stands, which has been an excellent read.
Marvel Pick
Captain America Road to War #1 (Marvel) Mattina Variant – A sweet cover, already selling out online. Grab’em if you see them.
The Indie Picks
The Fourth Planet #1 (Chapter House) – “The Fourth Planet is the brand new series from Chapterhouse Comics that The Examiner called “evocative and truly cosmic.” The quarterly, written by Fred Kennedy and brilliantly illustrated by Miko Maciaszek, sets the stage where a stolen warship loaded with runaway human slaves crashes onto a planet with three warring races, the most advanced of which has only just begun using gunpowder weaponry. Vastly outnumbered, will the humans become the very thing they were running away from? The warship Lightstorm has crashed on an alien planet. Even though its occupants seek only survival, they become unwillingly entangled within the constant warring of the planet’s native species.” Sign me up..
Black Eye Kids #1 (Aftershock) – Can’t go wrong with a Francavilla cover as well. From the description. “It’s dark. You’re alone. Then there’s a knock. You open the door to find two seemingly normal kids. They ask to come in, to borrow your phone to call for a ride. You find yourself overcome with an intense fear that you can’t explain. And then you notice their eyes… black… SOLID black. You want to run, but now they’re inside. It’s too late. They have you. Eisner Award winner Joe Pruett (X-Men Unlimited, Cable) is joined by artist Szymon Kudranski (Spawn, Penguin: Pain and Prejudice) for this terrifying new horror series.”
4 Kids Walk Into A Bank #1 (Black Mask) – From the writer who brought us We Can Never Go Home, this is a must to check out.
The Must Pick Up:
Chew Demon Chicken Poyo #1 (Image) – Secret Agent Poyo commands that you pick this up.
The Spec Pick
Divinity II #1 (Valiant) – One of Valiant’s best reads ever. Here’s to hoping this second arc is just as good.

  1. Did you read teuton by Fred Kennedy as well? He’s seriously one of the nicest guys ever. He helps me start my day (as my local morning show radio host) and I ha the luxury of meeting him on more than on occasion.

      1. No.
He is quite funny and intelligent. He used to do afternoons until our wacky morning guy burned too many bridges and got fired.
He also hosted teletoon at night. You know, family Guy, archer and the like.

    1. I reached out to Fred via social media with the link, suggested he contact Tony for a giveaway.
      Fingers crossed!

    1. Not to my knowledge. Midtown has them listed for today, I’ll certainly find out in about an hour or so if my local shops got them.

      1. I’ve got a message out to my shop asking. I’m waiting for them to get back to me. They’re usually pretty prompt…Unless they were shorted of course. Then they like to surprise me when I walk through the front door.

        1. If my Midtown order goes through without anything getting canceled, I got you covered if you miss out.

          1. Very kind of you! I’m still waiting for my shop. They haven’t gotten back to me yet which has me suspecting bad news….But maybe it’s just Wednesday and they’re busy? Yeah, that’s probably it 😉

        1. AH….Ok. I wonder if there was some miscommunication. Comixology’s pull list site has shown it for release for next week for a while I think. That’s generally what I use to keep my pull list organized

      1. I got one. I pre-ordered two from Midtown. My shop limited to one per person, he sold all 10 of his in 15 minutes of opening up (and he usually has only a hand full of people show up right at opening).

        1. Geez, It’s going to be in demand. Hopefully my shop doesn’t get shorted on it.Seems like it happens much to frequently on these indie books that catch steam. My shop wasn’t going to even order a copy until I submitted my Previews orders.
