One to watch: Vision #5

Thanks to Dustin S. for pointing this out.
Tom King’s current run in Vision has been awesome. Putting the Vision as the head of a family has been a really unique take. But there is one issue that seems to be a breakout on the secondary market, Vision #5With asking prices ranging from $45 to $50 for one issue. Vision #5 is definitely one to look for while at your shops tomorrow.

Now I know what you are thinking, those are just asking prices but are they selling at that price. Yes, Vision #5 is selling at that price.

So keep your eyes open tomorrow. You never know what you could find while looking for new books.

    1. Yes most don’t realize you can make fake sales with two eBay accounts and make anything look like its hot in past eBay purchase history.

      1. People pushing a bunch of fake sales on eBay is in my opinion on how some of these 2nd print books go for big bucks. 5 fake completed purchases and a article writing up why you should buy this book is all it takes hook line and sinker to get people to believe they need this comic at these high prices.

        1. In no way am I saying to but these books at the inflated prices. Also, I own no copies. Someone check the buyers activity percentage with the seller. Should show if it is fake or not.

  1. Trade’s out today. I doubt this will last. See Uncanny X-Force #4, which blew up until the collection came out.

  2. I mean, its a great series, so I would recommend people buy all the issues just so they can enjoy how amazing it is. I think the first trade is out today collecting issues #1-#6 though, yes?

    1. I’ve been arm-twisting for months. I even got a bunch of extra #1’s to give out to garner interest. I really think Marvel would benefit from rolling-back to a $2.99 price point; at least on their second-tier books. It is a lot harder to convince someone to spend that extra dollar on a book they aren’t sure of, or don’t feel is as “important” as X-men & Avengers.
Meanwhile, I always want the single issues of everything, not the trades, so I’d still be seeking out single issues for my PC. I actually had a hard time finding #4 & 5 for a while, but got them both for less-than-cover eventually. Surprised to see just how scarce #5 is.

      1. I was at the comic shop yesterday and they did indeed have the first trade as a new release. Therefore, I suggest you buy it and twist the arms of your friends until they finally agree to read this amazing comic! Just don’t break any arms, of course. No comic is worth breaking an arm over. Okay, maybe a Near-Mint first issue of, “The Walking Dead.”

      1. I started reading it along with a lot of other ANAD Marvel titles. I gave my brother-in-law issue 1, along with the Tom King signed copy (I either got it from Midtown or from you, Tony–I think you) for Christmas and promised him monthly issues for a year. We’ve been reading it together and it is absolutely stellar.
I think I’m only reading Vision, Ultimates, and Old Man Logan now. The inevitable relaunch drop off has officially occurred.
It would make sense that this book would heat up if that is in fact what is happening. Tom King is light on the action and heavy on the suspense and character work. This is more like an indie sci-fi thriller title than a “capes” story. It examines “humanity” from a synthetic lifeform’s perspective. Not exactly a brand new concept (see: Asimov’s “I, Robot”, Descender, A.I. etc. etc.), but still feels more like an indie title than a Big Two book.
For god’s sake, Tom King frames an entire issue around the myth of a rare flower. That’s some high form storytelling mechanics there!

      2. I listed one with $14.99 auction starting price.. and $32.99 BIN price.. someone threw a bid in.. so now we see where it ends up at. 🙂

      3. Just so people know, I picked up two Vision #5. I’ve listed one, auction starting at $14.99 or BIN at $32.99. It now has a bidder, which tells me that this is likely not shill bidding but real people seeking these out.
Comic Chron claims Vision #5 print run was only 18,636, so yes, supplies are low, availability is scarce and demand is pushing the price up on these. Although now that this is newsworthy and more people are likely seeking these out, there will be more available for sale and we’ll likely see the prices drop once those seeking them out get their copies most likely. Nevertheless, if you find them, you can like flip for some profit currently.

  3. Some of the recent Marvel releases that I was relying on getting locally have been a b*tch of a time finding #4 & #5 due to lower print runs. I try not to pre-order *everything* because I still want to support local, and there are some books I want to read sooner, but this recent experience makes me not want to take chances.
The Vision has been one of my favorite books of the current line, and I am really sad that it is ending at #12. Tom King says his agreement was always 12 issues, and now that he’s DC Exclusive, there’s no possibility of extending it. They could swap in another writer to continue with a similar vibe, but I have a feeling King has already built-in an ending that will destroy the status quo, and I wouldn’t have them change that just to extend the series. I’m highly anticipating seeing how all this goes down. And to think, one year ago I was unsure of King’s individual talent, since I was primarily familiar with him through his dual-writing of Grayson with Tim Seeley, lol. He’s set the bar of expectations pretty high for me for Batman now. 🙂

  4. I was having trouble finding a copy of #4 1st print but I finally found it last week. This is a great series, I hope that when it is over they collect the entire 12 issues in a hardcover.

      1. Same things starting to happen to Uncanny Inhumans #11 flood of copies that people bought to flip and not keep under cutting each other

    1. I listed mine today starting bid at $14.99. I have a bidder. So what’s happening is what I described above.
Low print run, scarce in some areas where availability is zilch for some people pushed them to seek them out on secondary. Not having a huge amount listed pushed the prices up due to small demand. Now us folks that have shops still sitting on them got word these are selling above cover, so we seek something out we normally wouldn’t bother buying or already have a copy and now availability online goes up, exceeds demand levels and they’ll start to level off and lower soon after.
It’s just simple supply and demand.. 😉
I bought 2 copies, I am now sitting at $7 profit (that’s minimum amount I’ll get, could still get more bids since there’s 4 more days in auction) by selling just one copy. I’m good. 🙂

      1. Yup, yesterday morning there was just a handful listed, I think I counted 3 or 4 listings. Now there is roughly 89 listings. Supply and demand.. supply and demand.. repeat after me people.. supply….. and…. demand!. Deep breaths everyone.. s u p p l y and d e m a n d…. 😉
What we should of done was kept quiet, trickled in a few listings and then spread word..
A comic that was apparently hard to find for some people became easily available.

  5. I think anyone who has read this comic can agree Marvel was foolish to let Tom King get bought-up by DC with that exclusive contract. After the 12th issue, “The Vision,” that’ll be it for some time regarding any Marvel work from King.

  6. I have a friend who has been reading the series and he couldn’t find issue #4 anywhere, seriously took me going to 6 different shops to track down a copy for him

    1. Thanks for that. I know we have gotten the Pump and Dump comments on it. But not the case. In fact the opposite has occurred. By bringing it to light, the laws of supply and demand have kicked in and more copies have hit the market and price has gone down. Nature of running stories about books of high value that can be found out there.

      1. The amount of copies of #4 on ebay in the last month are very slim, like 5 total. If you find one in your travels, it should be an easy $20 flip. You know the luck I have with hunting, but this book was a bitch to find!

  7. It’s confirmed Mary Jane will have the armor on in Amazing Spider-Man #15. Hope you bought the JSC exclusive variants they have extreme potential could be a $1000 book a couple years from now. Already selling over $100 a copy for unsigned color variants.
