Mel V.'s Variant Picks of the Week

Mel is out this week. He is on vacation while the rest of the CHU team is hard at work (both regular jobs and here) Mel is lounging on the beach sipping fruity beverages with tiny umbrellas.  So with Mel out DrunkWooky and I are picking the variants we like.

First up DrunkWooky’s

STAR WARS POE DAMERON #4 AJA VARIANT – Awesome David Aja variant that is simple and looks like a rebel propaganda poster. Would have looked awesome as a virgin variant without the trade dress.

HAN SOLO #2 LOTAY VARIANT – Wooky does love him some Star Wars. This one shows Solo doing what he does best, hitting on the ladies.

BATMAN #2 TIM SALE VARIANT – Sale’s classic art style is on display with this Soloman Grundy cover. A lot of people seemed cold on the #1 Sale Variant but Tim Sale has illustrated some if the finest Batman tales.

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #11 DEATH OF X Variant Cover by Juan Gedeon – Gedeon has a Richard Corben look to his art that I really like. As if the X-Men haven’t been maligned enough Marvel, we get a series of covers featuring their last moments. Sure, these characters are going nowhere, but still fun covers.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #15 LOPEZ DEATH OF X CVR – In the same vein as the one above, this time featuring X-23 herself at the end. With everything X-23 getting hot, this could be one to watch.

CIRQUE AMERICAN GIRL OVER PARIS #1 – Mel is always on the look out for Indy variants. This weeks is the Jet City Comics Girl over Paris 1. Will be very low printed.

PUNISHER #3 CLOONAN VARIANT – Dark and gritty. How the Punisher should be. Cloonan captures the Punisher as a predator out with the wolves.

CIVIL WAR II KINGPIN #1 BLACK PANTHER 50TH ANNIVERSARY VARIANT – Two things going for it that are going to drive Mel mad while on vacation. A new book written by Matthew Rosenberg and a new Black Panther cover.
