Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 8/3/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 8/3/16
Huge week this week, wallet busting week that is. There are a ton of great books and a ton of great covers.
The One With the Walking and the Dead
Walking Dead #157 – Such a great issue. Plus it has the regular cover and the Art Adams variant, which looks even more awesome in color. Whisper War starts here. Negan up to something. (Check out the spoilers later)
Returning Favorites
Black Science #23 – good to see the book back after a short pause. Love Rick Remender and this book is the reason why.
Tokyo Ghost #9 – same as above, Rick Remender at his finest. This dystopian story gets better and better. Low also comes out this week which means a lot of my weekly budget is going to Remender.
Queen of Vampires #5 – Anyone else following this classic style Creepy/Eerie story? Its very good with great art.
Punisher #4 – One of the best takes on Punisher in a long time. Has me reading Marvel again.
Moon Knight #5 – Same as with Punisher. A very unique take that has me actually reading Marvel.
Paper Girls #8 – BKV continues to wow with his off beat stories. Issue 7 had a couple of events dropped really changed the tone of the story.
Nail Biter #24 – Joshua Williamson is an amazing writer. This serial killer books should be on TV.
The Ones Everyone are Going to Get
Invincible Iron Man #12 – Selling out everywhere. While Riri has been in other issues, she fully meets Tony Stark here. Plus, who is the stranger in the business suit at the end of the issue and where did they go?
Harley Quinn #1 – Very oddball first issue. This one will be big, print run-wise, as well as, long term potential. People will be looking for Harley Quinn #1’s for some time as the Squad movie comes out. Grab the Sienkiewicz Variant as well.
Suicide Squad Rebirth #1 – See above. The movie will have people searching for the term “Suicide #1” on eBay. Not a bad pick up as the previous #1’s have picked up. Expect a big print run on this one as well.
New #1’s
Lady Killer 2 #1 – Joelle Jones’ awesome book returns this week. So pumped for the return of this one. Also look for the 30th Anniversary Variant Cover.
Small Press Gems
Dishonored #1 – Titan had a hit on their hands with the video game adaptation of Dark Souls, could they pull it off again?
Blood and Dust #1 – I like Action Labs, they put out great books and have fairly low print runs. Judd Glenny is the first American vampire, once he terrorized the West as its most fearsome predator, but for more than 40 years now he’s spent his days in peace, reduced to little more than babysitter for his own vampire offspring. But when the evil that lives in the swamp surrounding the small backwater town he calls home gets ahold of one of Judd’s great grandkids, everything changes.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Animosity #1 – The preview for this book looks good. What if animals wake up one day and can talk. What would they say? You will find out. I love the panda scene in the book. Small press, small print run.
The Pick of the Week
Hillbilly #2 – Final order cut off for this issue closed before the first issue came out. The first issue had a print run around 10,000 so you can be sure that the second issue slump will be in effect and the print run will be smaller. Online stores have already dried up on this so be on the look out.
That is it for this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.

        1. Oh I believe you, but its likely tomorrow that it’s out, Powell likely had the 10th listed as original date but Diamond pushed it up a week. ?

  1. I better grab a few copies tomorrow then. Thanks guys. Kind of weird Diamond pushes up the release date and not tell the creator/publisher of the book. ha ha

  2. No heat on War mother 1 or Evil heroes 1? 2 books I’m pretty excited to read tomorrow either way, guess if the series get good word of mouth it might heat up. We shall see!

    1. War Mother should be a good pick up. If I added one more book to the list I would have also put the other five books out this week I didnt put on the list. Lol. Huge and good week. Evil Heroes was also on my first list as a New #1
